سمع سمر تَهْجُرُوْنَ : Telling stories or indulging in discourse about it at night )2368( سَامِرٌ also means a camel pasturing by night. السَّامِرَةُ = سَامِرَةٌ and السَّمَرَةُ : The Samaritans; a people said to be one of the tribes of بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ ; a sector people of the Jews differing from them in some of their institutions. They remain to this time in Syria and are known by the appellation of سَامِرِيٌّ . اَلسَّامِرِيُّونَ is the relative noun of فَمَا السَّامِرَةُ خَطْبَكَ يَا سَامِرِيُّ : And what has thou to say, O Samiri? )20:96( سَمِعَ ]aor. يَسْمَعُ inf. noun سَمْعُ and سَمَاعٌ and سَمَاعَةٌ and سَمِعَهُ [مَسْمَعٌ : He heard it or him. قَالُوْا سَمِعْنَا وَعَصَيْنَا : They said, we hear and we disobey )294( سَمِعَ الشَّيْءَ : He heard or listened to the thing. سَمِعْتُ لَهُ صَوْتًا : I heard him produce a sound. سَمِعَهُ مِنْهُ : He heard it from him. سَمِعَهُ عَنْهُ : He heard it as related from him i. e. on his authority سَمِعَ به : He heard of it (i. e. فَلَمَّا سَمِعَتْ بِمَكْرِهِنَّ سَمِعَ التَّكَلُّمَ بِهِ : And when she heard about their plan i. e. when she heard people talking about their plan )12:32(. When it becomes transitive by means of alone or إلى it denotes what is intentional. سَمِعْتُ لَهُ أَوْ إِلَيْهِ : I gave ear hearkened or listened to him. لَا تَسْمَعُوْا لِهَذَا الْقُرْآن : Do not hearken or listen to this Qur'an )41:27( إِذْ يَسْتَمِعُوْنَ إِلَيْكَ : When they listen or hearken to thee )17:48( سَمِعَ also signifies, he understood. لَمْ تَسْمَعُ مَا قُلْتُ لَكَ : Thou didst not understand what I said to thee. It also means, he knew it. : قَدْ سَمِعَ اللهُ قَوْلَ الَّتِي تُجَادِلُكَ . God knew what you said : سَمِعَ اللَّهُ قُوْلَكَ Allah has indeed heard (or known) the speech of her who pleads with thee )582( سَمِعَة also means, he accepted it, answered it. سَمِعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَ : God has accepted the praise of him who has praised Him. تَدْعُوْهُمْ لَا يَسْمَعُوْا دُعَاءَ كُمْ : If you call them, they will not answer your call )35:15(. It also means, he obeyed him. إِنِّي امَنْتُ بِرَبِّكُمْ فَاسْمَعُوْن : I believe in your Lord, so obey me )36:26( أَبْصِرْبِهِ وَاَسْمِعْ means مَا أَبْصَرَهِ وَمَا أَسْمَعَهُ : How Seeing is He and how Hearing i. e. God sees and hears every thing and nothing is hidden from Him )18:27( مَّعَ إِلَيْهِ : He gave ear hearkened or listened to him. It is equivalent to They cannot hear any : لَا يَسْمَعُوْنَ إِلَى الْمَلَاءِ الْأَعْلَى أَسْمَعْ لَهُ and سَمِعَ لَهُ thing from the exalted assembly )37:9( اِسْمَعَ is with سَمِع or اِسْتَمَعَ and denotes what is intentional, signifying, he gave ear or 410
