سلف سلک فِرْعَوْنَ بِسُلْطَانٍ مُّبِينٍ : When We sent him to Pharaoh with a manifest miracle (51:39). سَلَفَ ]aor. يَسْلُفُ inf. noun سُلُوْفٌ and سَلَفٌ : He or it passed, passed away, came to an end, or became cut of; he or it went before or preceded. عَمَّا سَلَفَ : As for what has passed )5:96( سَلَفَ لَهُ عَمَلٌ صالح : A good deed of his preceded so as to prepare for him a future reward. سَلَفَتِ النَّاقَةُ : The she-camel was or became among the foremost of camels in arriving at the water. سَلَفَ الْأَرْضَ اَوْ أَسْلَفَهَا : He turned over the land for sowing أَسْلَفَهُ : He did it previously or beforehand. بِمَا أَسْلَفْتُمْ فِي الْأَيَّامِ الْخَالِيَةِ : Because of the deeds you did before or in the days gone by )69:25( أَسْلَفَ فِي كَذَا : He paid in advance for such a thing. أَسْلَفَهُ إِحْسَانًا : He did to him to be requited with a good action. أَسْلَفَهُ مَالًا : He lent him money to be repaid without interest سَلَفٌ : )as also سَلِيْفٌ and سُلُوْفٌ( : Preceding or going before; such as have gone before or preceded i. e. the preceding generations; ancestor; a good deed done before; payment in advance; loan without interest; precedent; a thing past. فَجَعَلْنَاهُمْ سَلَفًا : And We made them a thing past or a precedent )43:57( سلاتٌ )plural of سَلَفٌ : Ancestors; past generations. سَلَقَ ]aor. يَسْلُقُ inf. noun سَلَقَهُ سَلْقٌ : He threw him down on his back; سَلَقَهُ بِرَمْحٍ : He thrust or pierced him with a lance; he struck him or smote him with a spear سَلَقَهُ بِالْكَلَام : He hurt him with speech or spoke severely to him. سَلَقُوْكُمْ بِالْسِنَةٍ حِدَادٍ : They hurt you by what they say or bite you or smite or assail or scold you with sharp tongues )33:20( سَلَقَهُ بِالسَّوْطِ : He flayed him with a whip; he galled it, namely the back of the camel. سَلَقَ اللَّحْمَ عَنِ الْعَظْمِ : He peeled off the flesh from the bone. سَلَقَ الْمُزَادَةَ : He greased the leathern water-bag. سَلَقَ الْبَرْدَ النَّبَاتَ : The cold shriveled or blasted the herbage. سَلَقَ الْحَائِطَ : He scaled the wall. سَلَقَ also means, he shouted or did so vehemently. 28 He : سَلَكَ الطَّرِيقَ سَلَكُ and سُلُوفٌ inf. noun يَسْلُكُ . aor] سَلَكَ travelled or went along the road لِتَسْلُكُوْا مِنْهَا سُبُلًا فِجَاجًا : That you may traverse the open ways thereof )71:21( سَلَكَ الْمَكَانَ : He 406
