ذاق ذو ذَادَ gardens bearing bitter fruit )3:17( أُولَاتِ )plural( إِنْ كُنَّ أُولَاتِ حَمْلٍ : And if they be with (possess) child (65:7) and and and and ذِي are also used as prefixed noun as meaning "something in possession" and not "a possessor" وَضَعَتِ الْمَرْأَةُ ذَا بَطْنِهَا : The woman brought forth what was in her belly. ]aor. يَذُوْدُ inf. noun ذَادَهُ ذِيَادٌ : He drove away or repelled him. ذَادَ الْإِبلُ عَنِ الْمَاءِ : He drove away or repelled, or kept back or debarred the camels from the water, or prevented them from coming to it. ذَادَ عَنْ عِرْضِهِ : He defended his honour. ذَادَ عَنِى الْهَمَّ : He dispelled from me anxiety and grief. اَمْرَأَتَيْنِ تَذُوْدَنِ : Two women who were keeping back their camels or flocks (28:24). ذَاقَ aor. يَذُوقُ inf. noun ذَوْقٌ and ذَاقَهُ مَذَاقٌ : He tasted it or he tried or knew its taste. فَلَمَّا ذَاقَ الشَّجَرَةَ : when they both tasted of the tree )7:23(. It is originally said of that of which little is taken; when much is taken, the word آكل is used. By amplification اَلذَّرْقُ is used to signify perceiving, besides taste, all other objects of the senses and states or conditions; it is not restricted to the sense of the mouth. ذُوْقُوْا عَذَابَ الْحَرِيقِ : Taste youie. experience, feel etc. , the punishment of burning )3:182( لَا يَذُوْقُوْنَ فِيْهَا الْمَوْتَ : They will not taste death therein )44:57(. وَتَذُوْقُوا السُّوْءَ : And you will taste evil )16:9( ذُقْتُ الشَّيْءَ : I tried or tasted thing. ذَاقَ فُلان الْبَأْسَ : Such a one tasted or experienced i. e. knew it by its falling. ذَاقَ طَعْمَ الْإِيْمَانِ : He tasted or experienced or felt the sweetness of faith. ذَاقَ الْقَوْسَ : He pulled the string of the bow for the purpose of trial, that he might see what was its strength. ذُقْتُ مَا عِنْدَ فلان : I knew or tried or tested what qualities etc. such a one possessed. اَذَاقَهُ الشَّيْءَ : He made himtaste the thing. ذَاقُوْا وَبَالَ أَمْرِهِمْ : They tasted or experienced the evil consequences of their affair )59:16( ذَائِقَةٌ ]feminine of ذَائِقٌ )act. part. ) of which pluralis كُلُّ نَفْسٍ ذَائِقَةُ الْمَوْتِ . [ ذَائِقُوْنُ : Every soul shall taste of death )3186( ذَائِ : One who tastes; or tasting etc. انا لَذَائِقُوْنَ : Surely, we shall taste the punishment (37:32) and )39( الذَّرْقُ وَالذَّائِقَةُ : The faculty or power of taste. 299
