درس درج by degrees. اِسْتَدْرَجَهُ is syn with دَرَّجَهُ in the last two meanings. اِسْتَدْرَجَهُ : He caused him to ascend and to descend by degrees; he drew him near to destruction gradually or step by step. اِسْتَدْرَجَهُمْ : He took them little by little, (one or a few at a time) and not (all of them) suddenly. سَنَسْتَدْرِجُهُمْ : We will draw them near to destruction step by step )7:18(. اِسْتَدْرَجَهُ : He deceived him or beguiled him so as to induce him to proceed in an affair from which he had refrained. دَرَجَةٌ )plural( دَرَجَاتٌ : A single stair, or step of a ladder; a ladder constructed of wood or of clay etc. against a wall or the like by which one ascends to the roof of a house; a degree in progress; a degree grade of rank or dignity; an exalted or high grade etc; a degree i. e. four minutes of time; a thirtieth part of a sign of Zodiac أَعْظَمُ دَرَجَةً عِنْدَ اللهِ : They have the highest rank in the sight of Allah )09:20( لَهُمُ الدَّرَجَاتُ الْعُلَى : For them are the highest ranks (20:76). دَرَسَ ]aor. يَدْرُسُ inf. noun دَرَسَ الرَّسْمُ دُرُوْسٌ : The mark became effaced or obliterated. دَرَسَ الثَّوْبُ : The garment became old and worn out. دَرَسَ الْكِتَابُ : The book became old دَرَسَتِ الْمَرْأَةُ : The woman menstruated دَرَسَ الْجَارِيَةَ : He compressed the girl دَرَسَ الْكِتَابَ )aor يَدْرُسُ inf. noun دَرْسٌ and دِرَاسَةٌ( : He read the book; he read it repeatedly in order to remember it; or he read and learned it. تَدَارَسَ الْقُرْآنَ : He read the Holy Qur'an and returned to it time after time that he might not forget it. عَلَيْهِ : He studied under him as his teacher. وَلِيَقُوْلُوْا دَرَسْتَ : That they may say "Thou hast learned well" )6:106( وَإِنْ كُنَّا عَنْ دِرَاسَتِهِمْ لَغَافِلِينَ : And we were indeed unaware of their reading (6:157). اَدْرَكَ دَرَكَ ]aor. يُدْرِكُ inf. noun اَدْرَكَ الشَّيْءُ إِدْرَاتٌ : The thing attained its proper or final time or state. اَدْرَكَ الشَّجَرُ : The fruit attained its maturity i. e. it became ripe. اَدْرَكَ الصَّبِيُّ : The boy attained his maturity or puberty . مَشَيْتُ حَتَّى أَدْرَكْتُهُ : I walked until I overtook him. أَدْرَكَ الْمَسْتَلَةَ : He knew the problem; he perceived it; attained perfect knowledge of it; he comprehended it. اَدْرَكْتُهُ بِبَصَرِى : I perceived it by my sight. لا تُدْرِكُهُ الْأَبْصَارُ : The eyes perceive Him not; or as some others say the mental perception or vision comprehendeth Him not or attaineth not the 267
