خشع خسف خَسَفَ ]aor. يَخْسِفُ inf. noun خَسْفٌ and خَسَفَ الْمَكَانُ خُسُوْفٌ : The house sank and went into the earth with what was upon it. خَسَفَتِ الْأَرْضُ or إِنْخَسَفَتْ : The ground sank into the earth. خَسَفَ الْقَمَرُ أَوْ إِنْخَسَفَ الْقَمَرُ أَوْ إِنْكَسَفَ الْقَمَرُ : The moon suffered eclipse or lost its light or part of its light. خَسَفَتِ الْعَيْنُ : The eye sank خَسَفَ السَّقْفُ : The roof fell. خَسَفَ الرَّجُلُ : The man became emaciated or lean. خُسِفَ بالاَرْضِ : He or it sank into the earth and became swallowed by it. خَسَفَ اللَّهُ بِهِمُ الْأَرْضَ : God made them to disappear in the earth or made the earth to sink with them and swallow them. خُسِفَتِ الشَّمْسُ أَوْ كُسِفَتْ : The sun suffered eclipse. In the common conventional language اَلْكُسُوْ is the partial loss of the light of the sun and اَلْخُسُوْفٌ is the total loss of the light thereof; or conversely الْخُسُوْقُ is the partial loss of the light of the sun and الْكُسُوْقُ is the total loss thereof. In the Traditions the word الْخُسُوْفُ generally occurs as in the well-known saying of the Holy Prophet, إِنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ لَايَخْسِفَانِ لِمَوْتِ اَحَدٍ أَوْ لِحَيَاتِهِ : Verily, the sun and the moon do not suffer eclipse for the death of any one or for his life. وَخَسَفَ الْقَمَرُ : And the moon is eclipsed Then We caused the earth to : فَخَسَفْنَا بِهِ وَبِدَارِهِ الْأَرْضَ (75:9). swallow him up and his dwelling (28:82). خَشَبَ ]aor. يَخْشِبُ inf. noun خَشْبٌ [ : He picked out or selected a thing. خَشَبَ السَّيْفَ : He polished the sword; he forged a sword without perfecting it. خُشُبٌ) خَشَبٌ )plural) : Thick wood. مَالٌ خَشِبٌ : Cattle that are emaciated. كَأَنَّهُمْ خُشُبٌ مُّسَنَّدَةٌ : As though they were blocks of wood, propped up (63:5). خَشَعَ ]aor. يَخْشَعُ inf. noun خَشَعَ لَهُ خُشُوعٌ : He was or became lowly, humble or submissive to him. خَشَعَ بِبَصَرِهِ : He lowered his eye. خَشَعَ بَصَرُهُ : His eye became contracted خَشَعَ الصَّوْتُ : The voice became still. خَشَعَتِ الشَّمْسُ : The sun became eclipsed or was about to set. خَشَعَ الْوَرَقُ : The leaves withered خَشَعَتِ الْاَرْضُ : The earth dried up, not being rained upon. خَشَعَ فِي صَلَاتِهِ : He feared or was humble in his Prayer وَخَشَعَتِ الْأَصْوَاتُ لِلرَّحْمَنِ : And all voices shall be hushed before the Gracious God )20:109( خَاشِع )خَاشِعُوْنَ and خُشْعٌ and خَاشِعِيْنَ plural and act. part. ): Lowly, 231
