بلا بلی يُبْلى : And a kingdom which decays not )20:121( إِبْتَلَاهُ اللَّهُ إِبْتَلَاءً حَسَنًا or بَلَاءً حَسَنًا : God did to him a good deed. وَلِيُبْلِيَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ مِنْهُ بَلَاءً حَسَنًا : And that He may confer on the believers a great favour )18:18( أَبْلَهُ : He made him to swear, or he swore to him; he informed him or acquainted him with; he manifested it; he revealed it. يَوْمَ تُبْلَى السَّرَائِرُ : On the day when the secrets shall be disclosed )86:10( أَبْلَى التَّوْبَ : He wore out the garment. إِبْسَلاهُ : He tried, tested or proved him; he asked or sought of him information or news; he conjured and asked if he had any knowledge; he desired it; he sought it; he chose him, elected him. وَإِذِ ابْتَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ رَبُّهُ : When his Lord tried Abraham )2:125(. وَلِيَبْتَلِيَ اللَّهُ مَا فِي صُدُوْرِكُمْ : And that Allah might test what is in your breasts )3:155( مُسْتَلِى : One who tries or tests. )مُبْتَلُوْنَ and مُبْتَلِيْنَ plural( إِنَّ اللَّهَ مُبْتَلِيْكُمْ بِنَهَرٍ . Allah will surely try you with a river )2:250( . اِنْ كُنَّا لَمُبْتَلِيَّنَ : Surely We do try people )23:31( بَلاء )or بَلِيَّةٌ - plural بَلَايَا( : A trial; a test; an affliction by which one's mettle is tried and tested; the act of trying; grief as it tries the body; imposition of a difficult or troublesome thing; a favour or blessing. وَفِي ذَلِكُمْ بَلَاءِ مِّنْ رَّبِّكُمْ : And in this there was a trial for you from your Lord )2:50( بلاءً حَسَنا : A great favour )8:18(. و 28 بلى Is a particle contrary of لا and used for corroboration like نَعَمْ ; it is a reply to an interrogation which is a negative and affirms what is said to the addressee, as when you say to another أَلَمْ تَفْعَلْ : Didst thou not do such a thing, and the reply is بلى meaning yes, yea or aye. It is also used to convey reproof . أَيَحْسَبُ الْإِنْسَانُ أَنْ لَّنْ نَّجْمَعَ عِظَامَهُ : Does man think that We will not collect or assemble his bones? (75:4) Then the reply is بلى i. e. We will collect them. It is also used to make a person confess or acknowledge a thing. أَلَسْتُ بِرَبِّكُمْ : Am I not your Lord? )7:173( and the reply قَالُوا بَلَى : They said yea. It denotes a reply to a simple negation also. It occurs in 39:60 where it is said بَلَى قَدْ جَاءَتْكَ ايْتِي )Aye, My Signs came to thee), preceded by that which is not literally a negation, but which has the force of a negation. 88
