And surely We have brought them a Book which We have expounded with knowledge, a guidance and a mercy for a people who believe.
4
Never sent We a Messenger or a Prophet before thee
8
no bearer of burden shall bear the burden of another
12
Then in what thing will they believe thereafter?
12
In what word, then, after rejecting that of Allah and His Signs will they believe?
19
Verily, the ear and the eye and the heart — all these shall be called to account.
22
there is no doubt in it;
22
Surely, Allah’s guidance alone is the guidance
22
sent down as a guidance for mankind
22
And hold fast, all together, by the rope of Allah.
22
Then in what thing will they believe thereafter?
22
It is surely a decisive word,
22
Who has sent down the Book with truth and also the Balance
22
And none knows its right interpretation except Allah and those who are firmly grounded in knowledge;
22
On the day when the fulfilment thereof shall come
29
there is no doubt in it;
29
and teaches you the Book and Wisdom, and teaches you that which you did not know.
29
guidance for mankind with clear proofs of guidance and discrimination.
29
so whosoever refuses to be led by those who transgress, and believes in Allah, has surely grasped a strong handle which knows no breaking.
29
This (the Qur’an) is a clear demonstration to men, and a guidance and an admonition to the Godfearing.
29
Thereby does Allah guide those who seek His pleasure on the paths of peace, and leads them out of every kind of darkness into light by His will, and guides them to the right path.
29
It is not a thing that has been forged
29
And We have not sent down to thee the Book except that thou mayest explain to them that concerning which they differ, and as a guidance, and a mercy for a people who believe.
29
explain everything
29
Say, ‘The Spirit of holiness has brought it down from thy Lord with truth, that He may strengthen those who believe, and as a guidance and glad tidings for Muslims.’
29
Surely, this Qur’an guides to what is most right
29
And in truth have We sent it down and with truth has it descended.
29
then whoso will follow My guidance, he will not go astray, nor will he come to grief.
29
Herein, surely, is a message for people who worship God.
29
Light upon light!
29
Falsehood cannot approach it either from before or from behind it.
29
Say, ‘It is a guidance and a healing for those who believe
29
Who has sent down the Book with truth and also the Balance

e revealed to thee the Word by Our command
29
Consummate wisdom
29
That this is indeed a noble Qur’an,
29
In a well-preserved Book,
29
And surely, it is the true certainty.
29
It is surely a decisive word,
29
Therein are lasting commandments.
29
which We have expounded with knowledge

O ye who believe! if an unrighteous person brings you any news, ascertain the correctness of the report fully,
37
And hold fast, all together, by the rope of Allah and be not divided
37
‘But whosoever will turn away from My Reminder, his will be a strait life, and on the Day of Resurrection We shall raise him up blind.’
37
Allah has sent down the best Message in the form of a Book, whose verses are mutually supporting and repeated in diverse forms at which do creep the skins of those who fear their Lord; then their skins and their hearts soften to the remembrance of Allah.
37
And he who turns away from the remembrance of the Gracious God, We appoint for him a satan, who becomes his companion.
37
So hold thou fast to that which has been revealed to thee
37
And, truly, it is a source of eminence for thee and for thy people;
40
and fear Him, and observe Prayer, and be not of those who associate partners with God —
41
Set not up, therefore, equals to Allah, while you know.
41
Verily, We see thee turning thy face often to heaven; surely, then, will We make thee turn to the Qiblah which thou likest

and follow no protectors other than Him.
50
and conjecture avails naught against truth.
55
The heavens might well-nigh burst thereat, and the earth cleave asunder, and the mountains fall down in pieces,
56
He it is Who created for you all that is in the earth
56
Say, ‘I find not in what has been revealed to me aught forbidden to an eater who wishes to eat it, except it be that which dies of itself, or blood poured forth, or the flesh of swine
56
And whatsoever the Messenger gives you, take it; and whatsoever he forbids you, abstain from that.
60

And call two witnesses from among your men
62
and call to witness two just persons from among you; and bear true witness for Allah
63
and fear Him, and observe Prayer, and be not of those who associate partners with God —
64
Had it been from anyone other than Allah, they would surely have found therein much disagreement
68
only you perceive not.
69
Beware! it is surely they that are foolish
71
despair not of the mercy of Allah;
71
Say, “O My servants who have committed excesses against their own souls! despair not of the mercy of Allah, surely Allah forgives all sins. Verily He is Most Forgiving, Merciful.
81
We have left out nothing in the Book.
81
And We have sent down to thee the Book to explain everything
86
And they say: ‘Our hearts are under covers and are protected against that to which thou callest us, and in our ears there is a deafness
90
honoured in this world and in the next, and of those who are granted nearness to God;
92
Whatever Sign We abrogate or cause to be forgotten, We bring one better than that or the like thereof.
93
He grants wisdom to whom He pleases, and whoever is granted wisdom has indeed been granted abundant good
93
Which none shall touch except those who are purified.
94
they follow only a conjecture, and they do nothing but guess.
94
hey have no knowledge whatsoever of that
94
and conjecture avails naught against truth.
103
‘Except Thy chosen servants from among them.’
104
And peace was on him the day he was born, and the day he died, and peace there will be on him the day he will be raised up to life again.
105
Say, ‘I find not in what has been revealed to me aught forbidden to an eater who wishes to eat it,
106
This day have I perfected your religion for you
106
the most disagreeable of voices is the voice of the ass.
107
after rejecting that of Allah and His Signs will they believe?
107
whatsoever the Messenger gives you
109
no bearer of burden shall bear the burden of another
110
Most hateful is it in the sight of Allah that you say what you do not do.
113
and fear Him, and observe Prayer, and be not of those who associate partners with God —
114
why do you say what you do not do?
114
Most hateful is it in the sight of Allah that you say what you do not do.
119
And if thy Lord had enforced His will, He would have surely made mankind one people; but they would not cease to differ,
119
Save those on whom thy Lord has had mercy, and for this has He created them. But the word of thy Lord shall be fulfilled: ‘Verily, I will fill Hell with the disobedient Jinn and men all together.’
119
and He reveals not His secrets to any one,
119
Except to him whom He chooses, namely a Messenger of His.
121
Verily, the ear and the eye and the heart — all these shall be called to account.
124
act as best you can
And there is none among the People of the Book but will believe in it before his death; and on the Day of Resurrection, he (Jesus) shall be a witness against them —
152
And if there comes to you guidance from Me, then whoso shall follow My guidance, on them shall come no fear, nor shall they grieve.
152
urely, then, will We make thee turn to the Qiblah which thou likest
152
And We will try you with something of fear and hunger, and loss of wealth and lives, and fruits
153
many
153
And remember when Allah took a covenant from those who were given the Book, saying, ‘You shall make this Book known to the people and not conceal it.
153
Those, therefore, who have emigrated, and have been driven out from their homes, and have been persecuted in My cause, and have fought and been killed, I will surely remove from them their evils and will cause them to enter Gardens through which streams flow
153
‘And assuredly I will lead them astray and assuredly I will excite in them vain desires, and assuredly I will incite them and they will cut the ears of cattle; and assuredly I will incite them and they will alter Allah’s creation
153
Thou shalt certainly find the Jews and those who associate partners with God to be the most vehement of men in enmity against the believers. And thou shalt assuredly find those who say, ‘We are Christians,’ to be the nearest of them in love to the believers
153
O ye who believe! Allah will surely try you in a little matter: the game which your hands and your lances can reach
153
He will certainly continue to assemble you till the Day of Resurrectio
153
And We will certainly question those to whom the Messengers were sent, and We will certainly question the Messengers.
153
hen will We certainly relate to them their deeds with knowledge
153
‘Most surely will I cut off your hands and your feet on alternate sides. Then will I surely crucify you
153
And remember the time when thy Lord proclaimed that He would truly raise against them, till the Day of Resurrection, those who would afflict them with grievous torment.
153
And we will, surely, bear with patience all the harm you do us.
153
And those who disbelieved said to their Messengers, ‘We will, surely, expel you from our land unless you return to our religion.’ Then their Lord sent unto them the revelation: ‘We will, surely, destroy the wrongdoers.
153
And We will, surely, make you dwell in the land after them
153
Surely, Allah tries you therewith, and on the Day of Resurrection He will make clear to you that wherein you differed.
153
and you shall surely be questioned concerning that which you have been doing
153
Whoso acts righteously, whether male or female, and is a believer, We will surely grant him a pure life
153
And We revealed to the children of Israel in the Book, saying, ‘You will surely do mischief in the land twice, and you will surely become excessively overbearing.’
153
And Allah will surely help one who helps Him. Allah is indeed Powerful, Mighty
153
Allah has promised to those among you who believe and do good works that He will surely make them Successors in the earth, as He made Successors from among those who were before them; and that He will surely establish for them their religion which He has chosen for them; and that He will surely give them in exchange security and peace after their fear
153
‘I will surely punish him with a severe punishment or I will slay him, unless he bring me a clear reason for his absence.’
153
And as for those who strive in Our path — We will surely guide them in Our ways
153
And thou shalt surely recognize them by the tone of their speech.
153
Say, ‘Yea, by my Lord, you shall surely be raised up; then shall you surely be informed of what you did
153
That you shall assuredly pass on from one stage to another.
156
‘And he shall speak to the people in the cradle and when of middle age, and he shall be of the righteous.’
157
and they did not convert this conjecture into a certainty;
157
On the contrary, Allah exalted him to Himself. And Allah is Mighty, Wise.
157
But verily, he was a sign of the Hour. So have no doubt about it, but follow me. This is the right path.
157
And whatsoever the Messenger gives you, take it; and whatsoever he forbids you, abstain from that.
157
And there is none among the People of the Book
158
And there is none among the People of the Book but will believe in it before his death

Allah takes away the souls of human beings at the time of their death; and during their sleep of those also that are not yet dead. And then He retains those against which He has decreed deat
160
O our Lord, decide Thou between us and between our people with truth, and Thou art the Best of those who decide.
160
And there are some of you who are caused to die prematurely, and there are others among you who are driven to the worst part of life with the result that they know nothing after having had knowledge.
165

as they recognize their sons.
166
And they rejected them wrongfully and arrogantly,
167

O Jesus, I will cause thee to die a natural death and will exalt thee to Myself, and will clear thee from the charges of those who disbelieve, and will place those who follow thee above those who disbelieve, until the Day of Resurrection;
167
and they did not convert this conjecture into a certainty;
167
On the contrary, Allah exalted him to Himself. And Allah is Mighty, Wise.
167
So We have caused enmity and hatred among them till the Day of Resurrection
168
‘O Jesus, I will cause thee to die a natural death and will exalt thee to Myself
168
hey slew him not, nor crucified him,
168
On the contrary, Allah exalted him to Himself. And Allah is Mighty, Wise.
168
‘It is easy for Me;
168
But verily, he was a sign of the Hour. So have no doubt about it,
168
And thou, O soul at peace!
168
Return to thy Lord well pleased with Him and He well pleased with thee.
168
So enter thou among My chosen servants,
168
And enter thou My Garden.
173
surely, then, will We make thee turn to the Qiblah which thou likes
173
Now look at thy god of which thou hast become a devoted worshipper.
174
Whoso acts righteously, whether male or female, and is a believer, We will surely grant him a pure life; and We will surely bestow on such their reward according to the best of their works.
174
And as for those who strive in Our path — We will surely guide them in Our ways
174
Allah has decreed: ‘Most surely I will prevail, I and My Messengers.’
175
And Allah will surely help one who helps Him. Allah is indeed Powerful, Mighty
175
And those who believe and do good works — them We shall surely admit into the company of the righteous.
176
And from those also who say, ‘We are Christians,’ We took a covenant, but they too have forgotten a good part of that with which they were exhorted. So We have caused enmity and hatred among them till the Day of Resurrection. And Allah will soon let them know what they have been doing.
178
And he shall speak to the people in the cradle and when of middle age

those who disbelieve, and will place those who follow thee above those who disbelieve, until the Day of Resurrection;
178
And there is none among the People of the Book
178
And from those also who say, ‘We are Christians,’ We took a covenant, but they too have forgotten a good part of that with which they were exhorted. So We have caused enmity and hatred among them till the Day of Resurrection. And Allah will soon let them know what they have been doing.
183
Certainly these two are magicians
184
And if you differ in anything among yourselves, refer it to Allah and His Messenger
185
And there is none among the People of the Book but will believe in it before his death; and on the Day of Resurrection, he (Jesus) shall be a witness against them —
189
And follow not that of which thou hast no knowledge. Verily, the ear and the eye and the heart — all these shall be called to account.
192
Now look at thy god of which thou hast become a devoted worshippe
192
And as for those who strive in Our path — We will surely guide them in Our ways.
193
and will place those who follow thee above those who disbelieve, until the Day of Resurrection
193
So We have caused enmity and hatred among them till the Day of Resurrection.
194
‘Our Lord, let not our hearts become perverse after Thou hast guided us; and bestow on us mercy from Thyself; surely, Thou alone art the Bestower.
197
Do you enjoin others to do what is good and forget your own selves, while you read the Book? Will you not then understand?
197
And when Allah will say, “O Jesus, son of Mary, didst thou say to men

And there is none among the People of the Book but will believe in it before his death
199
Holy art Thou, O God, this is a grievous calumny!
203
And they rejected them wrongfully and arrogantly,
203
So We gave him the glad tidings of a forbearing son.
207
And there is none among the People of the Book but will believe in it before his death
212

O Jesus, I will cause thee to die a natural death and will exalt thee to Myself
215
he gates of the spiritual firmament will not be opened for them

In the seat of truth with an Omnipotent King.
224
Allah burdens not any soul beyond its capacity. It shall have the reward it earns, and it shall get the punishment it incurs. Our Lord, do not punish us, if we forget or fall into error; and our Lord, lay not on us a responsibility as Thou didst lay upon those before us. Our Lord, burden us not with what we have not the strength to bear; and efface our sins, and grant us forgiveness and have mercy on us; Thou art our Master; so help us Thou against the disbelieving people.
224
No knowledge have they thereof, nor had their fathers. Grievous is the word that comes from their mouths. They speak naught but a lie.
228
but will believe in it before his death

That indeed is an unfair division.
234
He it is Who has sent down to thee the Book; in it there are verses that are decisive in meaning — they are the basis of the Book — and there are others that are susceptible of different interpretations. But those in whose hearts is perversity pursue such thereof as are susceptible of different interpretations, seeking discord and seeking wrong interpretation of it. And none knows its right interpretation except Allah and those who are firmly grounded in knowledge; they say, ‘We believe in it; the whole is from our Lord.’ — And none heed except those gifted with understanding. —
234
And there is none among the People of the Book but will believe in it before his death
235
And Muhammad is only a Messenger. Verily, all Messengers have passed away before him. If then he die or be slain, will you turn back on your heels?
236
We are certainly with you; we are only mocking.’
236
Allah will punish their mockery and will let them continue in their transgression
237
That indeed is an unfair division.
238
And follow not that of which thou hast no knowledge
239
Grievous is the word that comes from their mouths.
241
And there is none among the People of the Book but will believe in it before his death
241
That indeed is an unfair division.
243
those who observe Prayer and those who pay the Zakat
245
so they believe but little.
245
from anyone other than Allah, they would surely have found therein much disagreement
245
and on the Day of Resurrection, he (Jesus) shall be a witness against them
246
And thus have We made you an exalted nation, that you may be guardians over men, and the Messenger of God may be a guardian over you
246
And I was a witness over them as long as I remained among them
248
And remember the time when Allah took a covenant from the people through the Prophets, saying: ‘Whatever I give you of the Book and Wisdom and then there comes to you a Messenger, fulfilling that which is with you, you shall believe in him and help him.’ And He said: ‘Do you agree, and do you accept the responsibility which I lay upon you in this matter?’ They said, ‘We agree;’ He said, ‘Then bear witness, and I am with you among the witnesses.’
248
Now whoso turns away after this, then, surely, those are the transgressors.
249
‘And, by Allah, I will certainly plan against your idols
251
will We make thee turn to the Qiblah
251
And We will try you with something of fear
251
Do you agree, and do you accept the responsibility
251
Now whoso turns away after this, then, surely, those are the transgressors.
251
You shall surely be tried in your possessions and in your persons and you shall surely hear many hurtful things from those who were given the Book
251
You shall make this Book known to the people
251
and will cause them to enter
251
He will certainly continue to assemble you till the Day of Resurrection
251
And assuredly I will lead them astray
251
most vehement of men in enmity
251
Allah will surely try you in a little matter
252
Most surely will I cut off your hands and your feet on alternate sides
252
And remember the time when thy Lord proclaimed that He would truly raise against them, till the Day of Resurrection,
252
And we will, surely, bear with patience all the harm you do us.
252
And those who disbelieved said to their Messengers, ‘We will, surely, expel you from our land
252
and on the Day of Resurrection He will make clear to you that wherein you differed.
252
This is indeed a strange thing
252
And We will certainly question those
253
And be not like unto her who, after having made it strong, breaks her yarn into pieces.
253
and you shall surely be questioned concerning that which you have been doing
253
We will surely grant him a pure life; and We will surely bestow on such their reward
253
And We revealed to the children of Israel in the Book, saying, ‘You will surely do mischief in the land twice, and you will surely become excessively overbearing.’
254
And Allah will surely help one who helps Him
254
He will surely make them Successors in the earth,
254
will surely punish him with a severe punishment
254
We will surely guide them in Our ways
254
And thou shalt surely recognize them by the tone of their speech.
255
hen shall you surely be informed of what you did
255
That you shall assuredly pass on from one stage to another.
256
Nay, but it is a glorious Qur’an,
256
In a well guarded tablet.
257
And there is none among the People of the Book
257
He it is Who sent His Messenger with guidance and the Religion of Truth, that He may make it prevail over every other religion
257
And if thy Lord had enforced His will, He would have surely made mankind one people; but they would not cease to differ,
257
Save those on whom thy Lord has had mercy, and for this has He created them. But the word of thy Lord shall be fulfilled: ‘Verily, I will fill Hell with the disobedient Jinn and men all together.’
257
And if We had enforced Our will, We could have given every soul its guidance, but the word from Me has come true: ‘I will fill Hell with Jinn and men all together.’
258
And their saying, ‘We did kill the Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary, the Messenger of Allah;
259
Will they not, then, meditate upon the Qur’an? Had it been from anyone other than Allah
259
And there is none among the People of the Book but will believe in it before his death
259
And be not like unto her who, after having made it strong, breaks her yarn into pieces.
259
And if Allah had enforced His will, He would surely have made you all one people; but He lets go astray him who wishes it, and guides him who wishes it; and you shall surely be questioned concerning that which you have been doing.
260
He said, ‘My Lord, then grant me respite till the day when they shall be raised.’
260
God said, ‘Certainly thou art of those that are granted respite,
260
‘Till the day of the appointed time.’
260
He said, ‘So by Thy might, I will surely lead them all astray,
260
‘Except Thy chosen servants from among them.’
260
God said, ‘Then the truth is, and the truth I speak,
260
‘That I will certainly fill Hell with thee and with those who follow thee, all together.’
261
nd there is none among the People of the Book but will believe in it before his death
261
and fulfil the covenant; for the covenant shall be questioned about.
263
I will cause thee to die a natural death and will exalt thee to Myself,
263
whereas they slew him not, nor crucified him
263
On the contrary, Allah exalted him to Himself
265
And then He retains those against which He has decreed death
266
And He it is Who takes your souls by night and knows that which you do by day; then He raises you up again therein, that the appointed term may be completed.
266
And then He retains those against which He has decreed death
268
will believe in it before his death
268
hose who observe Prayer
268
and the Sabians
268
Certainly these two are magicians
268
strange thing
274
We will surely grant him a pure life; and We will surely bestow on such their reward
274

And Allah will surely help one who helps Him. Allah is indeed Powerful, Mighty
274
And as for those who strive in Our path — We will surely guide them in Our ways. And verily Allah is with those who do good.
275
Do you enjoin others to do what is good and forget your own selves
276
So, turn thy face towards the Sacred Mosque
278
This is indeed a strange thing
279
Most surely I will prevail, I and My Messengers.
279
Nay, but it is a glorious Qur’an,
279
In a well guarded tablet.
282
We did kill the Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary, the Messenger of Allah;
282
Verily, We Ourself have sent down this Exhortation, and most surely We will be its Guardian.
284
And there is none among the People of the Book but will believe in it before his death
284
This is indeed a strange thing
285
And most men will not believe even though thou eagerly desire it.
285
And if thy Lord had enforced His will, He would have surely made mankind one people; but they would not cease to differ,
285
Save those on whom thy Lord has had mercy, and for this has He created them. But the word of thy Lord shall be fulfilled: ‘Verily, I will fill Hell with the disobedient Jinn and men all together.’
287
So We have caused enmity and hatred among them till the Day of Resurrection
287
thou didst speak to the people in the cradle and in middle age
293
nor is there a grain in the deep darkness of the earth, nor anything green or dry, but is recorded in a clear Book.
294
while you read the Book?
294
anything green or dry, but is recorded in a clear Book.
294
and whom We had taught knowledge from Ourself.
294
And as for those who strive in Our path — We will surely guide them in Our ways.
295
Holy art Thou, O God, this is a grievous calumny!
295
And, indeed, that is a grand oath, if you only knew —
296
They said: ‘Holy art Thou! No knowledge have we except what Thou hast taught us; surely, Thou art the All-Knowing, the Wise.’
296
And there is not a thing but with Us are the treasures thereof and We send it not down except in a known measure.
300
Grievous is the word that comes from their mouths
301
And be not like unto her who, after having made it strong, breaks her yarn into pieces.
302

Man is made of haste. I will certainly show you My Signs but ask Me not to hasten.
466
And say, ‘All praise belongs to Allah; He will soon show you His Signs, and you will know them
466
They ask thee to hasten on the punishment;
466
Say, ‘For you is the promise of a day from which you cannot remain behind a single moment nor can you get ahead of it.’
466
Soon We will show them Our Signs in all parts of the earth, and among their own people until it becomes manifest to them that it is the truth.
466
And when there comes to them a Sign, they say, ‘We will not believe until we are given the like of that which Allah’s Messengers have been given.’ Allah knows best where to place His Message.
468
who had borne witness that the Messenger was true and to whom clear proofs had come?
468
as they believed not therein at the first time
468
And if they see a Sign, they turn away and say, ‘A passing feat of magic.’

And when My servants ask thee about Me, say: ‘I am near. I answer the prayer of the supplicant when he prays to Me. So they should hearken to Me and believe in Me, that they may follow the right way.’
503
Behold! the friends of Allah shall certainly have no fear, nor shall they grieve —
503
Those who believed and kept to righteousness —
503
For them are glad tidings in the present life and also in the Hereafter — there is no changing the words of Allah; that indeed is the supreme triumph.
503
As for those who say, ‘Our Lord is Allah,’ and then remain steadfast, the angels descend on them, saying: ‘Fear ye not, nor grieve; and rejoice in the Garden that you were promised.
503
‘We are your friends in this life and in the Hereafter. Therein you will have all that your souls will desire, and therein you will have all that you will ask for —
503
Thou wilt find in their faces the freshness of bliss.
