اِنِّیۡ مُتَوَفِّیۡکَ وَرَافِعُکَ اِلَیَّ

I will cause thee to die a natural death and will exalt thee to Myself

وَمَا قَتَلُوۡہُ وَمَا صَلَبُوۡہُ

whereas they slew him not, nor crucified him

بَلۡ رَّفَعَہُ اللّٰہُ اِلَیۡہِ

On the contrary, Allah exalted him to Himself

یٰعِیۡسٰۤی اِنِّیۡ مُتَوَفِّیۡکَ وَرَافِعُکَ اِلَیَّ

‘O Jesus, I will cause thee to die a natural death and will exalt thee to Myself

وَمَا قَتَلُوۡہُ وَمَا صَلَبُوۡہُ

whereas they slew him not, nor crucified him

فَلَمَّا تَوَفَّیۡتَنِیۡ

but since Thou didst cause me to die

لَا يُسۡـَٔلُ عَمَّا يَفۡعَلُ وَهُمۡ يُسۡـَٔلُونَ

He cannot be questioned as to what He does, but they will be questioned.

اِنَّ اللّٰہَ لَا یُخۡلِفُ الۡمِیۡعَادَ

Surely, Allah fails not in His promise.

خَتَمَ اللّٰہُ عَلٰی قُلُوۡبِہِمۡ

Allah has set a seal on their hearts

فَلَمَّا زَاغُوۡۤا اَزَاغَ اللّٰہُ قُلُوۡبَہُمۡ

So when they deviated from the right course, Allah caused their hearts to deviate,

مَنۡ کَانَ فِیۡ ہٰذِہٖۤ اَعۡمٰی فَہُوَ فِی الۡاٰخِرَۃِ اَعۡمٰی

whoso is blind in this world will be blind in the Hereafter

وُجُوهٞ يَوۡمَئِذٖ نَّاضِرَةٌ

Some faces on that day will be bright,

إِلَىٰ رَبِّهَا نَاظِرَةٞ

Looking eagerly towards their Lord;

وَمَن كَانَ فِي هَٰذِهِۦٓ أَعۡمَىٰ فَهُوَ فِي ٱلۡأٓخِرَةِ أَعۡمَىٰ وَأَضَلُّ سَبِيلٗا

But whoso is blind in this world will be blind in the Hereafter, and even more astray from the way.

اِنَّ الۡحَسَنٰتِ یُذۡہِبۡنَ السَّیِّاٰتِ

Surely, good works drive away evil works

نَارُ ٱللَّهِ ٱلۡمُوقَدَةُ

It is Allah’s kindled fire,

ٱلَّتِي تَطَّلِعُ عَلَى ٱلۡأَفۡـِٔدَةِ

Which rises over the hearts.

اِنَّ اللّٰہَ یَاۡمُرُ بِالۡعَدۡلِ وَالۡاِحۡسَانِ وَاِیۡتَآیِٔ ذِی الۡقُرۡبٰی

Verily, Allah enjoins justice, and the doing of good to others; and giving like kindred

قُلۡ هُوَ ٱللَّهُ أَحَدٌ

Say, ‘He is Allah, the One;

ٱللَّهُ ٱلصَّمَدُ

‘Allah, the Independent and Besought of all.

لَمۡ يَلِدۡ وَلَمۡ يُولَدۡ

‘He begets not, nor is He begotten;

وَلَمۡ يَكُن لَّهُۥ كُفُوًا أَحَدُۢ

‘And there is none like unto Him.’

جَزٰٓؤُا سَیِّئَۃٍ سَیِّئَۃٌ مِّثۡلُہَا ۚ

he recompense of an injury is an injury the like thereof;

قُلۡ یٰعِبَادِیَ

Say, “O My servants"

وَمَا يَنطِقُ عَنِ ٱلۡهَوَىٰٓ

Nor does he speak out of his own desire.

إِنۡ هُوَ إِلَّا وَحۡيٞ يُوحَىٰ

It is nothing but pure revelation that has been revealed by God.

فِیۡہَا ہُدًی وَّنُوۡرٌ

wherein was guidance and light

اللّٰہَ لَا یُضِیۡعُ اَجۡرَ الۡمُحۡسِنِیۡنَ

Allah suffers not the reward of those who do good to be lost.

رَبَّنَا وَلَا تُحَمِّلۡنَا مَا لَا طَاقَۃَ لَنَا بِہٖ ۚ وَاعۡفُ عَنَّا ٝ وَاغۡفِرۡ لَنَا ٝ

Our Lord, burden us not with what we have not the strength to bear; and efface our sins, and grant us forgiveness

وَجِیۡہًا فِی الدُّنۡیَا وَالۡاٰخِرَۃِ وَمِنَ الۡمُقَرَّبِیۡنَ

honoured in this world and in the next, and of those who are granted nearness to God;

جَادِلۡہُمۡ بِالَّتِیۡ ہِیَ اَحۡسَنُ

argue with them in a way that is best

مَا کُنَّا مُعَذِّبِیۡنَ حَتّٰی نَبۡعَثَ رَسُوۡلًا

We never punish until We have sent a Messenger.

اِنۡ یَّکُ کَاذِبًا فَعَلَیۡہِ کَذِبُہٗ ۚ وَاِنۡ یَّکُ صَادِقًا یُّصِبۡکُمۡ بَعۡضُ الَّذِیۡ یَعِدُکُمۡ

If he be a liar, on him will be the sin of his lie; but if he is truthful, then some of that which he threatens you with will surely befall you.

فَنَسِیَ وَلَمۡ نَجِدۡ لَہٗ عَزۡمًا

We found in him no determination to disobey.

فَلَمَّا تَوَفَّیۡتَنِیۡ

but since Thou didst cause me to die

قَدۡ خَلَتۡ مِنۡ قَبۡلِہِ الرُّسُلُ

Verily, all Messengers have passed away before him

فِیۡہَا تَحۡیَوۡنَ وَفِیۡہَا تَمُوۡتُوۡنَ وَمِنۡہَا تُخۡرَجُوۡنَ

Therein shall you live, and therein shall you die, and therefrom shall you be brought forth.’

قُلۡ سُبۡحَانَ رَبِّیۡ ہَلۡ کُنۡتُ اِلَّا بَشَرًا رَّسُوۡلًا

Say, ‘Holy is my Lord! I am not but a man sent as a Messenger.’

حَمَلۡنٰہُمۡ فِی الۡبَرِّ وَالۡبَحۡرِ

carried them by land and sea

بَلۡ رَّفَعَہُ اللّٰہُ اِلَیۡہِ ؕ

On the contrary, Allah exalted him to Himself

مَا قَتَلُوۡہُ وَمَا صَلَبُوۡہُ وَلٰکِنۡ شُبِّہَ لَہُمۡ

they slew him not, nor crucified him, but he was made to appear to them like one crucified

مَا قَتَلُوۡہُ وَمَا صَلَبُوۡہُ

whereas they slew him not, nor crucified him

بَلۡ رَّفَعَہُ اللّٰہُ اِلَیۡہِ

On the contrary, Allah exalted him to Himself

وَمَا قَتَلُوۡہُ وَمَا صَلَبُوۡہُ وَلٰکِنۡ شُبِّہَ لَہُمۡ

hereas they slew him not, nor crucified him, but he was made to appear to them like one crucified; and those who differ therein are certainly in a state of doubt about it

بَلۡ رَّفَعَہُ اللّٰہُ اِلَیۡہِ

On the contrary, Allah exalted him to Himself

لَا تُفَتَّحُ لَہُمۡ اَبۡوَابُ السَّمَآءِ

the gates of the spiritual firmament will not be opened for them

رَفَعۡنٰہُ مَکَانًا عَلِیًّا

We exalted him to a lofty station

فِیۡہَا تَحۡیَوۡنَ

Therein shall you live

فَیُمۡسِکُ الَّتِیۡ قَضٰی عَلَیۡہَا الۡمَوۡتَ

And then He retains those against which He has decreed death

قُلۡ سُبۡحَانَ رَبِّیۡ

Say, ‘Holy is my Lord!

وَّاٰخَرِیۡنَ مِنۡہُمۡ لَمَّا یَلۡحَقُوۡا بِہِمۡ

And among others from among them who have not yet joined them

اُدۡعُ اِلٰی سَبِیۡلِ رَبِّکَ بِالۡحِکۡمَۃِ وَالۡمَوۡعِظَۃِ الۡحَسَنَۃِ وَجَادِلۡہُمۡ بِالَّتِیۡ ہِیَ اَحۡسَنُ

Call unto the way of thy Lord with wisdom and goodly exhortation, and argue with them in a way that is best.

وَلَا تُجَادِلُوۡۤا اَہۡلَ الۡکِتٰبِ اِلَّا بِالَّتِیۡ ہِیَ اَحۡسَنُ

And argue not with the People of the Book except with what is best

۞لَتُبۡلَوُنَّ فِيٓ أَمۡوَٰلِكُمۡ وَأَنفُسِكُمۡ وَلَتَسۡمَعُنَّ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُواْ ٱلۡكِتَٰبَ مِن قَبۡلِكُمۡ وَمِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَشۡرَكُوٓاْ أَذٗى كَثِيرٗا ۚ وَإِن تَصۡبِرُواْ وَتَتَّقُواْ فَإِنَّ ذَٰلِكَ مِنۡ عَزۡمِ ٱلۡأُمُورِ

You shall surely be tried in your possessions and in your persons and you shall surely hear many hurtful things from those who were given the Book before you and from those who set up equals to God. But if you show fortitude and act righteously, that indeed is a matter of strong determination.

لَاۤ اِکۡرَاہَ فِی الدِّیۡنِ

There should be no compulsion in religion.

اَفَاَنۡتَ تُکۡرِہُ النَّاسَ

Wilt thou, then, force men

وَلَا تَقۡفُ مَا لَیۡسَ لَکَ بِہٖ عِلۡمٌ

And follow not that of which thou hast no knowledge

اِنَّ بَعۡضَ الظَّنِّ اِثۡمٌ

for suspicion in some cases is a sin

ارۡجِعِیۡۤ اِلٰی رَبِّکِ

Return to thy Lord

یٰعِیۡسٰۤی اِنِّیۡ مُتَوَفِّیۡکَ وَرَافِعُکَ اِلَیَّ

اُدۡعُ اِلٰی سَبِیۡلِ رَبِّکَ بِالۡحِکۡمَۃِ وَالۡمَوۡعِظَۃِ الۡحَسَنَۃِ وَجَادِلۡہُمۡ بِالَّتِیۡ ہِیَ اَحۡسَنُ

کُنۡتُمۡ خَیۡرَ اُمَّۃٍ اُخۡرِجَتۡ لِلنَّاسِ

You are the best people raised for the good of mankind

وَلَتَسۡمَعُنَّ مِنَ الَّذِیۡنَ اُوۡتُوا الۡکِتٰبَ مِنۡ قَبۡلِکُمۡ وَمِنَ الَّذِیۡنَ اَشۡرَکُوۡۤا اَذًی کَثِیۡرًا ؕ وَاِنۡ تَصۡبِرُوۡا وَتَتَّقُوۡا فَاِنَّ ذٰلِکَ مِنۡ عَزۡمِ الۡاُمُوۡرِ

and you shall surely hear many hurtful things from those who were given the Book before you and from those who set up equals to God. But if you show fortitude and act righteously, that indeed is a matter of strong determination.

وَلۡتَكُن مِّنكُمۡ أُمَّةٞ يَدۡعُونَ إِلَى ٱلۡخَيۡرِ وَيَأۡمُرُونَ بِٱلۡمَعۡرُوفِ وَيَنۡهَوۡنَ عَنِ ٱلۡمُنكَرِ ۚ وَأُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلۡمُفۡلِحُونَ

And let there be among you a body of men who should invite to goodness, and enjoin equity and forbid evil. And it is they who shall prosper.

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ ٱصۡبِرُواْ وَصَابِرُواْ وَرَابِطُواْ وَٱتَّقُواْ ٱللَّهَ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تُفۡلِحُونَ

O ye who believe! be steadfast and strive to excel in steadfastness and be on your guard and fear Allah that you may prosper.

اُدۡعُ اِلٰی سَبِیۡلِ رَبِّکَ بِالۡحِکۡمَۃِ وَالۡمَوۡعِظَۃِ الۡحَسَنَۃِ وَجَادِلۡہُمۡ بِالَّتِیۡ ہِیَ اَحۡسَنُ

Call unto the way of thy Lord with wisdom and goodly exhortation, and argue with them in a way that is best.

وَلۡتَکُنۡ مِّنۡکُمۡ اُمَّۃٌ یَّدۡعُوۡنَ اِلَی الۡخیۡرِ

And let there be among you a body of men who should invite to goodness,

وَجَادِلۡہُمۡ بِالَّتِیۡ ہِیَ اَحۡسَنُ

and argue with them in a way that is best

رَبَّنَا افۡتَحۡ بَیۡنَنَا وَبَیۡنَ قَوۡمِنَا بِالۡحَقِّ وَاَنۡتَ خَیۡرُ الۡفٰتِحِیۡنَ

O our Lord, decide Thou between us and between our people with truth, and Thou art the Best of those who decide.’

یَدۡخُلُوۡنَ فِیۡ دِیۡنِ اللّٰہِ اَفۡوَاجًا ۙ

entering the religion of Allah in troops,

مَّا كَانَ مُحَمَّدٌ أَبَآ أَحَدٖ مِّن رِّجَالِكُمۡ وَلَٰكِن رَّسُولَ ٱللَّهِ وَخَاتَمَ ٱلنَّبِيِّـۧنَ ۗ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ بِكُلِّ شَيۡءٍ عَلِيمٗا

Muhammad is not the father of any of your men, but he is the Messenger of Allah and the Seal of the Prophets; and Allah has full knowledge of all things.

وَلَقَدۡ صَدَّقَ عَلَیۡہِمۡ اِبۡلِیۡسُ ظَنَّہٗ

And Iblis found that his judgment of them was true

وَّاجۡعَلۡنَا لِلۡمُتَّقِیۡنَ اِمَامًا

and make us a model for the righteous.

لَہُمُ الۡبُشۡرٰی فِی الۡحَیٰوۃِ الدُّنۡیَا

For them are glad tidings in the present life

اِنَّ الَّذِیۡنَ قَالُوۡا رَبُّنَا اللّٰہُ ثُمَّ اسۡتَقَامُوۡا تَتَنَزَّلُ عَلَیۡہِمُ الۡمَلٰٓئِکَۃُ اَلَّا تَخَافُوۡا وَلَا تَحۡزَنُوۡ

As for those who say, ‘Our Lord is Allah,’ and then remain steadfast, the angels descend on them, saying: ‘Fear ye not

وَکَانُوۡا مِنۡ قَبۡلُ یَسۡتَفۡتِحُوۡنَ

before that they had prayed for victory

یَعۡرِفُوۡنَہٗ کَمَا یَعۡرِفُوۡنَ اَبۡنَآءَہُمۡ

recognize it even as they recognize their sons

اَعۡطٰی کُلَّ شَیۡءٍ خَلۡقَہٗ

Who gave unto everything its proper form

اِنَّکَ لَعَلٰی خُلُقٍ عَظِیۡمٍ

thou dost surely possess high moral excellences

رَّبِّ زِدۡنِیۡ عِلۡمًا

‘O my Lord, increase me in knowledge.’

ذٰلِکَ فَضۡلُ اللّٰہِ یُؤۡتِیۡہِ مَنۡ یَّشَآءُ

That is Allah’s grace; He bestows it upon whomsoever He pleases

عَلٰی کُلِّ اَفَّاکٍ اَثِیۡمٍ

hey descend on every great liar and sinner,

اِنَّ عِبَادِیۡ لَیۡسَ لَکَ

‘Surely, thou shalt have no

عَلَیۡہِمۡ سُلۡطٰنٌ

no power over My servants

اَطِیۡعُوا اللّٰہَ وَاَطِیۡعُوا الرَّسُوۡلَ وَاُولِی الۡاَمۡرِ مِنۡکُمۡ

obey Allah, and obey His Messenger and those who are in authority among you

ٱهۡدِنَا ٱلصِّرَٰطَ ٱلۡمُسۡتَقِيمَ

Guide us in the right path —

صِرَٰطَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَنۡعَمۡتَ عَلَيۡهِمۡ غَيۡرِ ٱلۡمَغۡضُوبِ عَلَيۡهِمۡ وَلَا ٱلضَّآلِّينَ

The path of those on whom Thou hast bestowed Thy blessings, those who have not incurred Thy displeasure, and those who have not gone astray.

فَلَمَّا تَوَفَّیۡتَنِیۡ

but since Thou didst cause me to die

اَللّٰہُ اَعۡلَمُ حَیۡثُ یَجۡعَلُ رِسَالَتَہٗ

Allah knows best where to place His Message

لِمَ تَقُوۡلُوۡنَ مَا لَا تَفۡعَلُوۡنَ

why do you say what you do not do?

كَبُرَ مَقۡتًا عِندَ ٱللَّهِ أَن تَقُولُواْ مَا لَا تَفۡعَلُونَ

Most hateful is it in the sight of Allah that you say what you do not do.
