    وَنَادَىٰ فِرۡعَوۡنُ فِي قَوۡمِهِۦ قَالَ يَٰقَوۡمِ أَلَيۡسَ لِي مُلۡكُ مِصۡرَ وَهَٰذِهِ ٱلۡأَنۡهَٰرُ تَجۡرِي مِن تَحۡتِيٓ ۚ أَفَلَا تُبۡصِرُونَ

    And Pharaoh proclaimed among his people, saying, ‘O my people! does not the kingdom of Egypt belong to me and these streams flowing under me? Do you not then see?

    أَمۡ أَنَا۠ خَيۡرٞ مِّنۡ هَٰذَا ٱلَّذِي هُوَ مَهِينٞ وَلَا يَكَادُ يُبِينُ

    ‘Nay, I am better than this fellow who is despicable and can scarcely express himself clearly.'

    فَلَوۡلَآ أُلۡقِيَ عَلَيۡهِ أَسۡوِرَةٞ مِّن ذَهَبٍ أَوۡ جَآءَ مَعَهُ ٱلۡمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ مُقۡتَرِنِينَ

    ‘And why have not bracelets of gold been bestowed on him, or angels accompanied him in serried ranks?’

    فَٱسۡتَخَفَّ قَوۡمَهُۥ فَأَطَاعُوهُ ۚ إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُواْ قَوۡمٗا فَٰسِقِينَ

    Thus did he make light of his people, and they obeyed him. Indeed they were a wicked people.

    فَٱسۡتَخَفَّ قَوۡمَهُۥ فَأَطَاعُوهُ ۚ

    Thus did he make light of his people, and they obeyed him.
