PRAYERS 56 manifest. You are the final Arbiter in the matters over which people differ. O All a h , with Your special decree, guide me towards the truth in the matters which have been disputed. You are the One, Who guides whomsoever You will, towards the right path. Hadrat ‘ As im ra relates he asked Hadrat ‘ A ’ishah ra , how did the Holy Prophet sa begin his Tahajjud prayer? In reply she said "You have asked a question, which nobody has asked me before". She said "When the Holy Prophet sa used to stand up for prayer, he would praise and glorify God and seek forgiveness ten times. He would then recite the following prayer": ْ ْ اَﻟﻠّٰﻬُﻢ َّ اﻏ ِْ ﻔِﺮ ْىل ِْ وَاﻫ ْﺪِىن ْ ،وَار ِْ زُﻗ ِْىن ْو2ََﺎﻓِىن ْ وَاَﻋُﻮ ْذُﺑِک َ ﻣِﻦ َْ ﺿِﻴ ِ ﻖ ِ امل ْ ﻘَﺎم ْ ﻳَﻮ َ مَ اﻟ ِ ﻘِﻴَﺎﻣ ﺔ. 85 O All a h , forgive me, guide me, give me sustenance and safeguard me. I seek refuge in You from the place of hardship on the Day of Judgement. Ab u Sa‘ i d Khudr i ra states that when the Holy Prophet sa used to stand up for worship during the night, after praising and glorifying God, he used to say this prayer: ْ ْ اَﻋُﻮذ ُ ﺑِﺎﷲِ اﻟﺴَّﻤِﻴ ْ ﻊ ِ اﻟ ْ ﻌَﻠِﻴ ْ ﻢ ِ ﻣِﻦ َ اﻟﺸَّﻴ ْ ﻄَﺎن ِ اﻟﺮَّﺟِﻴ ﻢِ ،ﻣِﻦ مهََﺰِہ و َ ﻧَﻔَﺨªِ َ و ﻧَﻔَﺜªِ. 86 I seek refuge in All a h , who is All-Hearing and All-Knowing, from the rejected Satan, from his insinuations, evil influences and wicked discourses. On the request of Hadrat Ab u -Bakr ra the Holy Prophet sa taught him this prayer to recite during prayer: ْ ْ اَﻟﻠّٰﻬُﻢ َّ اِىن ِّ ﻇَﻠَﻤ ِ ﻇُﻠºﺖ ُ ﻧَﻔ ًْ َ ﻤًﺎ کَﺜِري ْ ا ،وَﻻ ْ ﻳَﻐ ْ ﻔِﺮ ُ اﻟﺬُّﻧُﻮ َ ب َ اِﻻ َّ اَﻧ ﺖ ،ْ ْ ﻓَﺎﻏ ْ ﻔِﺮ ْ ىلِ ﻣَﻐ ْﻔِﺮَةً ﻣِّﻦ ْ ﻋِﻨ ﺪِکَ وَار ْ ْ ﺣﻤ ْ ْ ،اِﻧَّکَ اَﻧ ْ ﺖَ اﻟ ْ ﻐَﻔُﻮ ُ ر ُ اﻟﺮَّﺣِﻴ ﻢ. 87
