PRAYERS 9 in our conduct, and make firm our steps and help us against the disbelieving people. 16. Prayer for Mercy and Forgiveness When Hadrat A dam as (Adam) by mistake ate from the forbidden tree, God taught him some prayers and as a result turned to him with compassion. 12 رَﺑَّﻨَﺎ ﻇَﻠَﻤْﻨَﺎ ْأَﻧْﻔُﺴَﻨَﺎ ْوَإِن ْﻟَﻢ ﺗَﻐْﻔِﺮ ْﻟَﻨَﺎ وَﺗَﺮ ﺣﻤْﻨﺎ ْ َّ ﻟَﻨَﻜُﻮ َﻧَﻦ ْٰﻣِﻦ ْ اخل َ ﺴِﺮِﻳ ﻦ. (Al-A‘r a f 7:24) Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves, and if You forgive us not and have not mercy on us, we shall surely be of the lost. 17. Prayer of Forgiveness in Asking Questions in Ignorance When the son of N uh as (Noah) was drowning in the flood, N uh as (Noah) supplicated God for the safety of his son. God reprimanded him that as a result of his son’s misdeeds, the son was not amongst his people. Then N uh as (Noah) implored God with the following humble prayer and became the recipient of God's mercy and blessings. ِّ ِّرَب ْإِين ُ أَﻋُﻮ َذ ْﺑِﻚ َأَن أَﺳْﺄَﻟَﻚ َﻣَﺎ ِْﻟَ[ْﺲ ِيل ٌﺑِﻪ 2َِّﻠْﻢ َّ و ْإِﻻ ِﺗَﻐْﻔِﺮ ْيل وَﺗَﺮ ﺣﻤْ ْ َأَﻛُﻦ ْٰﻣِﻦ َ اخل ﺴِﺮِﻳﻦ. (H u d11:48) My Lord, I beg You to protect me from asking You that whereof I have no knowledge. And unless You forgive me and have mercy on me, I shall be among the losers. 18.
