Mr Sayyid Muhammad Ahmad Qadri, of the J۔U۔1۔Pakistan stated that in the event of a war between India and Pakistan, the Indian Muslims were duty bound to side with Pakistan۔This view was corroborated by Maulana Moududi۔Some ulama stated during the enquiry that in an Islamic State portrait painting, photographing of human beings, sculpture, playing of cards, music, dancing, acting and all cinema and dramatic performances will have to be banned۔Maulana Abul Hasnat stated that a policeman or soldier would have the right to disobey any command from his superiors on the ground of religion۔He added that the policeman or the soldier was free to decide himself whether a particular command was contrary to religion or not۔It was only during a war between Pakistan and another non-Muslim country that the soldier was not free to decide for himself: in such an eventuality, he would have to depend on the fatwa of the ulama۔Maulana Abdul Hanif Badayuni and some others considered that the dissection of dead bodies in the Medical college or for postmortem was antithetical to Islam۔The ulama of the different shades materially differed from each other when asked to define a Muslim۔The Report summarizes the curious position: 'Keeping in view the several definitions given by the ulama, need we make any comment except that no two learned divines are agreed on this fundamental۔If we attempt our own definition as each learned divine has done and that definition differs from that given by all others, we unanimously go out of the fold of Islam۔And if we adopt the definition given by any one of the ulama, we remain Muslims according to the view of that alim but Kafirs according to the definition of every one else۔Islam in India's Transition to Modernity۔by M۔A۔Karandikar, pp: 284-285۔Eastern Publishers 25/216 Darakhshan Society, Malir۔KARACHI 7۔
