YAA۔اختیار سول اینڈ ملٹری گزٹ نے لکھا من "Welcome Gesture In issuing a detailed statement about the Ahmadiyya beliefs and a directive to his community to stop all religious controversies, the Head of the Ahmadiyya movement, Mirza Bashirud-Din Mahmud Ahmad has made a most helpful contribution towards the easing of the bitterness created as result of the recent anti- Ahmadiyya agitation۔Deviation even by an hair's breadth from the way chalked out by the Quran and Sunnah, says the Ahmadiyya leader, is, according to his creed, a sin۔All those who recite the "Kalima" are looked upon by his community as belonging to and part of the "Ummat" of the Holy Prophet۔These declarations Should go a long way to dispel misunderstandings۔That there are differences between the Ahmadies and the orthodox Ulema on certain religious points is perfectly true۔But there are equally great, even greater differences among other sects۔If we start probing into those differences, there would be no end to them and Pakistan would be reduced to a Babel of confusion۔Solidarity of the "Millat", to our mind, is the highest objective if Islam۔To sacrifice national solidarity and weaken a national State is the greatest "Kufr"۔There should be no other interpretation of Islam and "Kunfr" in Pakistan۔And that, we are quite clear in our mind, is the essence of the Quranic teachings۔We doubt that the Ahmadiyya Chief's clarifications will at all pacify the Ulema who, according to Iqbal, would need something to quarrel about even in Heaven۔But sensible sections of public opinion should find food for thought in it۔Unless we learn to stand united, despite our differences, we are doomed as a free people۔Any outside wire- pulling can plunge Pakistan into a conflagration, by working up sectarian passions between any two sects: ("Civil & Military Gazette", Lahore 18-6-1953)
