47. His Generous Treatment of the Meccans. . When Allah vouchsafed to him the conquest of Mecca the people thereof were trembling with fear at the treatment which might be meted out to them. The residence of the Medina who had not themselves seen the tortures to which the. Muslims had been subjected and had only heard of them from other people were very much enraged at the thought of them. But when he entered Mecca he gathered together the people and said "O ye people I forgive today all the wrongs which you have done to me; ye shall not be punished.
