A nd at times , they provide wise counsel to the seeker of wisdom. His style is extremely candid and pure of literary preten c e. It was almost as if the vapour rising from his pure heart , somehow cond ensed magically , into elegant poetry. No one taught him the art of writing poetry. It was , as if innate. Initially, he adopted a pen name , Āshnā [pronounced Aash - naa] , which means " A cquaintance", but eventually gave up usin g it. Ḥaḍrat Mir Sahib 's first poem appeared in 1903, when he was twenty - two years old. A few lines from this poem are presented here: What good is medication when I am no more?
