GEi\1AL ABDUL NASSER OF EGYPT For instance, there was a time when the West used to label General Gema! Abdul Nasser as a "mad man" who had lost his mental balance. He was depicted as a person who did not comprehend the overwhelming powers arrayed against him as compared to his own, or even the combined strength of all the Arab powers. He was portrayed as a man who, whenever be went to war, would always suffer ignominious defeat and would revert to an even worse condition than before. Therefore according to the analysis of the Western world, a "mad leader" rose to fame, whose rhetoric swayed the whole Arab nation to his side.
