they are nearer to one another in the Book of God (8:76). ]ø Ö $ u » Û F à ö ] Ö $ u ô n» Ü ö : These are names applied to God and are both formed to denote intensiveness of signification, from ø u ô Ü ø like ]ø Ö» Ç ø » fø ^ á ö from Æ ø ô g ø and ]ø Ö» à ø × ô n» Ü ö from  ø × ô Ü ø. ]ø Ö $ u » Û F à ö is in the measure of Ê ø à » ¡ á º and ]ø Ö $ u ô n» Ü º in the measure of Ê ø à ô n» Ø º. According to the rules of the Arabic language, the larger the number of letters added to the root word, the more extensive or more intensive does the meaning become. The measure of Ê ø à » ¡ á º thus conveys the idea of fulness and extensiveness, while the measure of Ê ø à ô n» Ø º denotes the idea of repetition and giving liberal reward to those who deserve it. Thus the word ]ø Ö $ u » Û F à ö would denote "mercy comprehending the entire universe", whereas the word ]ø Ö $ u ô n» Ü ö denotes, "mercy limited in scope but repeatedly shown. "In view of the above ]ø Ö $ u » Û F à ö is He Who shows mercy gratuitously and extensively to all creation without regard to effort or work and ]ø Ö $ u ô n» Ü ö is He Who shows mercy in response to and as a result of the actions of men but shows it liberally and repeatedly. ]ø Ö $ u » Û F à ô ] Ö $ u ô n» Ü ô Ú ø ^ Öô Ô ô mø ç » Ý ô ] Ö ôù m» à ô : The Gracious, the Merciful, Master of the Day of judgement (1:3-4). Moreover ]ø Ö $ u » Û F à ö is applicable to God only, while the latter is applied to man also. eô ^ Ö» Û ö ç , Ú ô ßô n» à ø ø ¨ ö æ » Í º $ u ô n» Ü º : And to the believers he is compassionate and merciful (9:128). Again the former extends to the whole creation and the latter applies mostly to believers. When applied to men, the plural of ø u ô n» Ü º is ö u ø Û ø ^ ð ö : The Holy Prophet is reported to have said, ]ø Þ $ Û ø ^ mø » u ø Ü ö ] Ö × # ä ö Ú ô à »  ô fø ^ ô å ô ] Ö % u ø Û ø « ð ø : God has mercy on only those of His servants who have mercy on others. ö u ø Û ø « ð ö eø n» ßø ã ö Ü » : Tender among themselves (48:30). ø ] u ô Ü º (act. part. ) : One who takes mercy and ø ] u ô Û ô n» à ø is its plural and ]ø » u ø Ü ö means, more or most merciful. ]ø Þ» k ø ]ø » u ø Ü ö ] Ö $ ] u ô Û ô n» à ø : Thou art the Most Merciful of those who show mercy (7:152). ø ì ô o ø [aor. mø » ì ø o inf. noun ø ì ø ^ æ ø é º and ø ì ÷ ^ ] : It (a thing). was or became soft, flaccid, flabby or fragile. ø ì ø ^ (aor. mø » ì ö ç » ). and ø ì ø o (aor. mø » ì ø o ). and ø ì ô o ø (aor. mø » ì ø o ). ø ì ø ^ ] Ö» à ø n» ö : The life became easy or plentiful. ö ì ø ^ ð º : A soft or gentle wind; or gentle wind that does not move anything; a soft and quick wind; a wind that does not 320 u Ü ì o
