People worshipped and prayed to lifeless objects like stones, fire and the sun. Some considered water their god while others worshipped human beings. In addition, the earth was saturated with all kinds of sin, cruelty and mischief. All a h Himself has expressed the plight of the world at that time in the Holy Qur’ a n: 1 This means that those nations which were given heavenly books had become misguided, and those who had not received any divine book, and were like a desolate jungle, had also become misguided.
