102 The commentary of al-Qa si dah Many people used to play various musical instruments and would sing songs with lyrics, but by following the Holy Prophet sa the same people were able to communicate with the Ever-Loving God. It is reported in a H ad i th that the Holy Prophet sa said that in previous nations there were believers with whom God spoke and angels used to talk through their tongues. In my ummah , there would be people like this also. He presented Hadrat ‘Umar bin Kha tta b ra as an example of such individuals. 14 COUPLET 30 Many were those who lusted for perfumed women , But you made them adore the Book of God. In the past people used to be madly in love with beautiful women, but O my beloved, you made them madly in love with the Word of God, the Holy Qur’ a n, to such an extent that they confined themselves to the commandments of the Holy Qur’ a n and lived their lives according to them.
