88 The commentary of al-Qa si dah COUPLET 23 The towns of Arabia awoke to life once again; Leaving the days of death and drought behind. The cities of the Arabian nation were depicted a picture of desolation, desertion and famine. There was no hope of any benefit or usefulness from them. Desolation, abomination and clouds of evil were covering them and it seemed that death and destruction would prevail any minute. But O rain of mercy, with your coming all the dry land disappeared. The parched earth was replaced with green foliage. Desolation and abomination disappeared. The deserts transformed into gardens. Desolate places became full of life. Hustle, bustle and springtime festivities appeared everywhere. COUPLET 24 The men of H ij a z, who were given to the love of women; You made them satiated in love of the Gracious God.
