83 first they are Indians, then Hindus or Muslims. But can Islam ever permit Muslim to have such a stance? Definitely not! What Islam teaches us is that first and foremost we are Muslims, and then whatever else; rather, we can go further and say, we are nothing but Muslims. Here someone may observe that there are people who take part in politics and yet manage to join religious activities; and in fact, they spend much of their time in serving their religion. Such people infer that that despite being involved in politics one can still serve his religion. As mentioned previously, one may be able to retain his relationship with religion along with being involved in politics, but politics demands lobbying and grouping, and those who are involved in it try to use religion for attaining people’s sympathy. This deadens the true purpose of religion, and instead of augmenting one’s faith, it causes serious damage to one’s faith. Moreover, some people change their beliefs to win the pleasure of the party that enjoys the large majority. This makes them enemies of religion under the guise of friendship. Poor people, having been deceived by their proclamations, begin to see their filthy and absurd beliefs as the real and correct beliefs. Thus, the true spirit of faith is absolutely destroyed. Even if there are a few of those who tend to pay some heed to religion along with politics, they are extremely dangerous for the faith because the truth has largely diminished from the society.
