•oUR BELoVED MASTER• 22 name of God. ” What a Divine design it was that he had ten sons born to him and all ten of them reached their youth during his lifetime! ‘Abdul-Mu tt alib might not have thought much of it at the time when he was making that promise, but he was very restless when the time came to fulfil it. However, being a man who was courageous of heart and true to his word, he went to the Ka‘bah with all of his sons to sacrifice one of them in keeping with his promise. Upon reaching the Ka‘bah, when he drew the lot, it came out in the name of his youngest son ‘Abdull a h. Only seventeen years old at the time, ‘Abdul la h was the most capable and virtuous of all his sons. In addition to that, he was the best looking among all the brothers. That is why ‘Abdul-Mu tt alib loved him tremendously. Besides, parents generally love the youngest child in a special way. Therefore, at the drawing of ‘Abdull a h’s name, ‘Abdul -Mu tt alib was naturally very worried. Nevertheless, he wanted to fulfil his vow.
