•oUR BELoVED MASTER• 116 presence, the young Master sa said, “Those of you, who are present here at this time, bear witness to the fact that from today, I free Zaid ra and adopt him as my son. He shall inherit from me and I shall inherit from him. ” The father and uncle stood next to them. It was beyond their imagination that a boy could leave his parents and feel proud at being the slave of another person and also that a master could treat his slave with such mercy and compassion. For both the brothers, this display of affection and love on one hand and of sympathy and compassion on the other was wondrous. They were completely amazed and could not believe that such masters and such slaves existed in this world. When they realized that the boy was not willing to go with them under any circumstances, they went back, leaving him behind. Hadrat Zaid ra kept his word to the extent that he laid down his life for his Master sa , thus setting a seal to the truthfulness of his words and his loyalty.
