Mercy flows from your lips. We have bestowed upon you abundant points of wisdom Therefore, observe prayer and offer sacrifice in gratitude to Him and establish prayer for My remembrance. You are with Me and I am with you. Your secret is My secret. We have relieved you of the burden which had well-nigh broken your back, and have exalted your praise. You are on the straight path, [and] of high standing in this world and the Hereafter, and among those who are close [to Allah]. ل حال. ال ك م فی ك و الذی امشا ه حماك اللّٰ. نصرك اللّٰ. رفع الل ّٰ حجّة االسالم جمال. تحاط اسرار االولیاء. God will support you. God will help you. God will raise the argument of Islam. It is the beauty of Allah that has purified you in every situation. The mysteries that God Almighty has granted to His auliy a’ [friends of Allah] cannot be encompassed. One is drawn towards Him in one way, while another is by another way, Ya‘q u b [ Jacob]1 earned the status by imprisonment that the oth- ers attain by asceticism. This is an indication that there are two divine attributes which are engaged for the instruction of God’s servants. The first attribute is of tenderness, kindness, and benevolence; it is called jam a l [grace]. The other attribute is of force and harshness; it is called jal a l [grandeur]. It is thus the way of Allah that those who are summoned to His exalted threshold are nurtured sometimes through His attribute of jam a l and sometimes through His attribute of jal a l. Whenever the greatest favours of the One True God are decreed, the manifestation of the attribute of jam a l remain dominant; but on a few occasions the divine will disciplines or nurtures His special servants 1. Seems to be a scribe’s error in Urdu. The reference seems to be to Prophet Y u suf [Joseph], the son of Ya‘q u b [Jacob]. Allah knows best. [Publisher]
