THE B Ā B Ī AND BAH Ā ’ Ī RELIGION 52 to Bah a ’ull a h, and this man also had some ample means for the task he had planned for himself. From the time he arrived in Iraq, to the time of his death (1269 to 1309 Hijra), for full forty years he lived among the Arabs. In spite of this the new sharia which he embodied in Aqdas stands as a living proof of failure in the task of producing a better book than the Holy Qur’an. In fact Aqdas is so faulty that the Bah a ’ i s up to this day have never dared to bring it into the open. It is not available in the market. In fact it has never been published, for it is guarded as something secret which should not be allowed to fall into the hands of anyone except the close inner circle of a few people. In regard to the daily pursuits of Bah a ’ull a h at ‘Akk a , ‘A s r-e-Jad i d says "The greater part of his time was spent in prayer and devotion, contemplation, in study of the sacred books, in the naz u l of the Alw ah and in improving the moral tone and the spiritual education of friends and followers" 70. From the words ‘sacred books and Alw ah in this passage are meant those dissertations, answers to queries, or letters which Bah a ’ull a h dictated, since according to the Bah a ’ i view every word and writing of Bah a ’ull a h, is an Ilh a m (inspiration).
