Again Jesus says: ‘Think not that I am come to destroy the law or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. ’ 2 ‘And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one tittle of the law to fail. ’ 3 Paul’s statement that a man is not justified by the works of the Law is entirely erroneous. Zacharias and his wife ‘were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord, blameless’. 4 The Apostles of Jesus did not hold the same belief. James, the brother of Jesus for instance, says: What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? Can faith, save him? If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, and one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone…Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only. . . For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also. 5 Paul’s teachings levelled against the Law were not observed in 1. Luke 2:21. 2. Matthew 5:17 3. Luke 16:17 4.
