? 96 Abolishment of the Mosaic Law He further realised that to ensure success amongst the Gentiles, the teaching propounded by Jesus and practised faithfully by him and his disciples must be modified. He saw that the ceremonies and rites of the Mosaic Law could never be accepted by those who were not Jews. With characteristic boldness, therefore, he declared the abolishment of the Law with all ceremonials and ordinances and gave a new direction to Christianity which became a complex of his own active imagination, Roman thought, and Greek philos- ophy. He says: 1. ‘By the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin. . .
