99 The Purpose of Human Creation In the Holy Qur’an , regarding human creation, God Almighty says: ٰٓﻳ َﺎ ُّﻳ َﻬ ﺎ ا ﻟ َّﻨ ﺎ ُس ا َّﺗ ُﻘ ۡﻮ ا َر َّﺑ ُﻜ ُﻢ ا lَِّ ۡی َﺧ َﻠ َﻘ ُﻜ ۡﻢ ِّﻣ ۡﻦ َّﻧ ۡﻔ ٍﺲ َّو ا ِﺣ َﺪ ٍۃ َّو َﺧ َﻠ َﻖ ِﻣ ۡﻨ َﻬ ﺎ َز ۡو َﺟ َﻬ ﺎ َو َﺑ َّﺚ ِﻣ ۡﻨ ُﻬ َﻤ ﺎ ِر َﺟ ﺎ ًﻻ َﻛ ِﺜ ًۡري ا َّو {ِ َﺴ ﺂ ًء | َو ا َّﺗ ُﻘ ﻮ ا ا َّٰﷲ ا lَِّ ۡی ~َ َﺴ ﺂ َء ُﻟ ۡﻮ َن ِﺑ ٖﻪ َو ا َۡﻻ ۡر َﺣ ﺎ َم E ِا َّن ا َّٰﷲ َﻛ ﺎ َن َﻋ َﻠ ۡﻴ ُﻜ ۡﻢ َر ِﻗ ۡﻴ ًﺒ ﺎ “ O’ ye people! Fear your Lord W ho created you from a single soul and of its kind created its mate, and from them twain spread many men and women; and fear Allah , in Whose name you appeal to one another, and fear Him particularly respecting ties of kinship. Verily, Allah watches over you. ” ( Holy Qur’an Ch. 4: V. 2) This verse very briefly explains the circumstances surrounding the birth of humankind and the purpose of its creation. God Almighty says: ٰٓﻳ َﺎ ُّﻳ َﻬ ﺎ ا ﻟ َّﻨ ﺎ ُس ا َّﺗ ُﻘ ۡﻮ ا َر َّﺑ ُﻜ ُﻢ O ’ people, fear your Lord. ( Holy Qur’an Ch. 4: V. 2) [The word] ‘ naas’ in Arabic means the same as the word ‘ ā dam ī ’ [human being ] does in Urdu or Persian. Unfortunately , in our country although women have woken up to the call for opportunities to serve their nation and religion, they have not yet been able to understand that they are also ‘ ā dam ī ’ [normally translated as ‘men’]. Try saying to a woman that she is an ‘ ā dami ’, she will respond, ‘Why would I be an ‘ ā dam ī ’ ? It is m en who are ‘ ā dam ī ’. ’ Even though ‘ ā dam ī ’ actually means ‘progeny of Adam. ’ The word ‘ naas ’ has the sam e meaning as the word ‘ ā dam ī ’. When the word ‘ naas ’ is used in the Arabic language it includes both men and women in its meaning. In th e same way, when the word ‘ ā dam ī ’ is used in Urdu, it includes both men and women in its meaning. When we say that ‘ T hese responsibilities are assigned to the ‘ ā dam ī ,” it means that ‘ T hese responsibilities are assigned to men as well as to women. ’ Likewise, when we say in Arabic , ‘ T his is the condition of ‘ naas ,’’ it
