100 means that ‘ T his is the state of men and of women. ’ God Al mighty says in the Holy Qur’an : ُﻗ ۡﻞ َا ُﻋ ۡﻮ ُذ ِﺑ َﺮ ِّب ا ﻟ َّﻨ ﺎ ِس U َﻣ ِﻠ ِﻚ ا ﻟ َّﻨ ﺎ ِس U ِا ِٰ ا ﻟ َّﻨ ﺎ ِس U “ Say, ‘I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind , T he King of mankind , T he God of mankind ’ ” ( Holy Qur’an Ch. 1 1 4: V. 2 - 4) Now this does not mean , ‘[I seek refuge in] the Lord of men, the King of men , and the God of men. ’ What it does mean is that ‘I seek refuge in the God of both men and women. ’ Thus , the word ‘ naas ’ in Arabic and the word ‘ ā dam ī ’ in Urdu and Persian have the same meaning. The word ‘ ā dam ī ’ is from the Arabic language but it is not commonly used [in Arabic]; mostly the word ‘ naas ’ is used instead. The word ‘ ā dam ī ’ however is [commonly] used in Persian and Urdu. Thus, God Almighty says: ٰٓﻳ َﺎ ُّﻳ َﻬ ﺎ ا ﻟ َّﻨ ﺎ ُس ا َّﺗ ُﻘ ۡﻮ ا َر َّﺑ ُﻜ ُﻢ [ O ye people! fear your Lord ] ( Holy Qur’an Ch. 4: V. 2) O me n and women ! M ake your Lord your refuge and shield. ا lَِّ ۡی َﺧ َﻠ َﻘ ُﻜ ۡﻢ [ Who created you… ] ( Holy Qur’an Ch. 4: V. 2) The One W ho created you. ِّﻣ ۡﻦ َّﻧ ۡﻔ ٍﺲ َّو ا ِﺣ َﺪ ٍۃ [… from a single soul and from its kind …] ( Holy Qur’an Ch. 4: V. 2) ‘ [ He has c reated you] with similar types of strength, similar types of emotion, similar types of resolution s , similar types of worries, and similar types of desires. ’ Similar Emotions of Men and Women This verse seems to tell us that as far as a person’s soul is concerned , men and women are equal, and they experience the same
