غاظ غاظ دَمْعَهُ : He restrained or stopped his tears. وَمَا تَغِيْضُ الْأَرْحَامُ : And what the wombs diminish )139( وَغِيْضَ الْمَاءُ : And the water was made to subside or decrease (11:45). غَاظَ aor. يَغِيْظُ inf. noun غَاظَهُ غَيْظٌ and غَيَّظَهُ : He angered or enraged him. لِيَغِيْظَ بِهِمُ الْكُفَّارَ : That He may make the disbelievers burn with rage or enrage them )48:30( تَغَيَّظَ الْحَرُّ : The heat became vehement or raged. (inf. noun سَمِعُوْا لَهَا تَغَيُّظًا تَغَيُّظٌ : They will hear its raging )25:13( غَيْظٌ Anger wrath rage syn غَضَبٌ. But it has a more intensive signification than غَضَبٌ ; the former is latent anger and the latter is apparent or the former is that which affects a person who has not power to exercise it and the latter that which affects a person who has power to exercise it. This is why غَيْظٌ is never used about God while غَضَبٌ has been used in the Qur'an about God )4:94( مُوْتُوا بِغَيْظِكُمْ : Die of your rage, or perish in your rage )3:10( وَالْكَاظِمِينَ الْغَيْظَ : Who suppress their anger( )3:15( غَائِظٌ : Angering or enraging or one who does so. غَائِظُوْنَ )plural(. إِنَّهُمْ لَنَا لَغَائِظُوْنَ : And they have enraged us (26:56). 631
