عضد عصى disobeyed him or rebelled against him. وَمَنْ عَصَانِي : And he who disobeys me )14:37( عَصَ الْعِرْقُ : The vein did not stop bleeding. عَاصِ and عَصِيٌّ : Disobeying or rebelling or disobedient or rebellious. عَاصُوْنُ and عُصاةٌ are the plurals of عَصِيٌّ عَاصِ is also the intensive form of عاص and means very disobedient or rebellious. الْعَاصِيُّ is an appellation for the young camel when it disobeys its mother and does not follow her. كَانَ لِلرَّحْمَنِ عَصِيًّا : He is a rebel against the Gracious God )19:45( وَالْفُسُوْقَ وَالْعِصْيَانَ : And wickedness and disobedience )498( عِصْيَانٌ is cont of طَاعَةٌ and so is وَمَعْصِيَةِ الرَّسُوْلِ مَعْصِيَةٌ : And disobedience to the Messenger (58:9). عَضٌ ]aor. يَعَضُّ inf. noun عَضٌ and عَضَّهُ . [ عَضِيْضٌ : He seized it with his teeth and pressed it therewith. عَضٌ بِصَاحِبِهِ : He stuck or clove to his companion. This is said to be the primary signification or he seized him with his teeth, because this also signifies cleaving. عَضٌ عَلَى يَدَيْهِ غَيْظًا : He bit his hands in rage. يَوْمَ يَعَضُّ الظَّالِمُ عَلَى يَدَيْهِ : On the day when the wrongdoer will bite his hands He : عَضَّهُ بِلِسَانِهِ . Hold ye fast thereto : عَضَّوْا عَلَيْهَا بِالنَّوَاجِدِ (25:28) backbit or defamed him عَضّهُ الزَّمَانُ : The time was severe to him. عَضُدَ ]aor. يَعْضُدُ inf. noun عَضَدَهُ . [ عَضْدٌ : He hit or hurt his عَضُدّ )upper arm between the elbow and the shoulder-blade); he aided or assisted him or he was or became his عَضْدٌ i. e. aider or assistant for عَضْدٌ primarily relates to the arm, then it was metaphorically applied to signify an aider or assistant عَضْدٌ : The upper arm or upper half of the arm from the elbow to the shoulder-blade )أَعْضَادٌ plural(; سَنَشُدُّ عَضُدَكَ بِاَخِيْكَ : We shall strengthen thy arm with thy brother or shall assist thee by thy brother (28:36); an helper, assistant or aider. فُلانٌ عَضُدِى : Such a one is my support or stay or aider or assistant. مَا كُنْتُ مُتَّخِذَ الْمُضِلَّيْنَ عَضُدًا : Nor could I take as helpers those who lead people astray (18:52); the side of the armpit; a side of a road; a quarter, region or tract; the two sides of a watering trough or tank etc. عَضَلَ ]aor. يَعْضُلُ and يَعْضِلُ and عَضِلَ aor. يَعْضَلُ inf. noun عَضْلٌ and عِضْلٌ 577
