one. ]ø Öô ä ø ]ô Öø n» ä ô : He took himself to him for refuge or protection; he sought or asked aid or succour of him. ]ø Ö $ ã ø ä ü : He reckoned him among gods. ]ô ÖF ä º and ]ô  ø å º : An object of worship or adoration i. e. a god or deity; ( ]F Öô ã ø è º plural) ]ô ÖF ã ø n» à ô : Two gods. ]ø Ö × # ä ö is the name of the Supreme Being Who is the sole possessor of all perfect attributes and is free from all defects. In the Arabic language, this word is never used for any other being or thing. No other language has a distinctive name for the Supreme Being. The names found in other languages are attributive or descriptive. ]ø Ö × # ä ö is always used in the singular. It is a simple substantive, not derived. Some say it is a proper name applied to the Being Who exists necessarily by Himself, comprising all the attributes of perfection, the ] Ù being inseparable from it. Some say it is from ]ø Öô ä ø , either because minds are confounded or perplexed by the greatness or majesty of God or because He is the object of recourse for protection or aid. Some are of the opinion that it is from  ø å ø mø × ô n» ä ö which signifies height, others think that it is from  ø å ø mø × ö ç » å ö which signifies brightness, yet others are of the view that it is from the Syriac  ø â ø ^. But all these are mere speculations and have no foundation in fact. The word ]ø Ö × # ä is derived from no other word, nor any other word is derived from it. ]ø Ö × # ã ö Ü $ is an expression used in prayer meaning mø ^ ]ø Ö × # ä ö the Ý being a substitute for mø ^ meaning, O God. ]ø ø ø [aor. mø ^» Öö ç » inf. noun ]ø Ö» ç ÷ ] and ]ö Öö ç » ]÷ and ]ö Öô n & ^ ] æ » ]ô ñ» jø ×F o ] ø ]ø Ö ^ : He fell short; he fell short of doing that was requisite or he was remiss. ]ø Ö ^ Ê ô o ] » ø Ú »  ô : He did not do what was expected of him regarding the affair. ø ]F Öö ç » Õ ø Þö  » v ^÷ : I will not be remiss in giving thee sincere or faithful advice. ø mø ^» Öö ç » Þø Ó ö Ü » ì ø fø ^  ÷ : They will not be remiss in corrupting you (3:119). ø mø ^» iô Ø ô ]ö æ » Öö ç ] Ö» Ë ø  » Ø ô Ú ô ß» Ó ö Ü » : And let not those who have bounty or abundance from among you be remiss or fall short (24:23). ]F ÖF o (aor. mö © » Öô o » inf. noun ]ô m» ¡ ø ð º ) : He swore. ]F ÖF o mø Û ô n» ß÷ ^ : He swore an oath. ]ô ñ» jø ×F o also means he swore. ]F ÖF o  ø  ö ç » Ù ö ] Ö × # ä ô  ø × $ o ] Ö × # ä ö Â ø × ø n» ä ô æ ø  ø × $ Ü ø Ú ô à » Þô  ø ^ ñô ä´  ø ã »  ÷ ] : The Holy Prophet swore that he would not ] Ö ä ]  28
