صمد صلی into the fire; he was or became burned by the fire; he endured or suffered the heat of the fire. وَ يَصْلَى سَعِيرًا : And he will enter into or burn in the blazing Fire )4:13( بالنار : He was tried by the fire. اِصْطَلَى : He warmed himself. اَصْطَلَى النَّارَ أَوْ بِالنَّارِ : He warmed himself by means of the fire. لَعَلَّكُمْ تَصْطَلُوْنَ : So that you may warm yourselves )28:30( صِلِيٌّ )inf. noun from and هُمْ أَوْلَى بِهَا صِلِيًّا (صَلِيَ : They are most deserving to be burned or cast therein )19:71( تَصْلِيَّةٌ )inf. noun from صَلَّى which is the same as وَتَصْلِيَةُ جَحِيمٍ أَصْلَى : And burning in Hell )5695( صَالٍ : One who shall burn (act. part. ) The word is explained by Freytag as meaning "heated and burned". If this be correct, then it must be a possessive epithet from مَنْ هُوَ صَالِ الْجَحِيمِ صَلِىَ : Who shall burn in Hell )37:164( فلانٌ لَا يُصْطَلَى بِنَارِهِ : He is very brave so that no one can approach him when he is enraged especially in fight. صَمَتَ ]aor. يَصْمُتُ inf. noun صُمْتُ etc. . ]: He was or became silent, mute or speechless. صَامِتٌ : Silent mute or speechless. صَامِتُوْنَ )plural( . أَمْ أَنْتُمْ صَامِتَوْنَ : Or you remain silent )7:194( مَالَهُ صَامِتٌ وَلا ناطق : He has nothing i. e. nothing in the form of money or animals. صَمَدَ ]aor. يَصْمُدُ inf. noun صَمَدَهُ [صَمْدٌ : He had recourse to him or it; he set it up or erected it. صَمَدَ إِلَيْهِ فِي الْحَوَائِجِ : He repaired, betoo himself, or had recourse to him in needs and exigencies. صَمَدٌ : A lord (because one has recourse to him in one's needs and exigencies); a person to whom one repairs in exigencies; a lord to whom obedience is rendered, without whom no affair is accomplished or one to whom lordship ultimately pertains; the Being Who is everlasting or continues for ever or Who continues for ever after His creatures have perished; or the Creator of every thing of Whom nothing is independent and Whose unity Everything indicates; one high elevated; a person or place above whom or which is nothing or no one. الصَّمَدُ : Is one of the attributes of God, meaning One of Whom all have need, upon Whom all depend, the Independent and Besought of 490
