سری سرف or transgressed the right bound or limit or measure; he acted extravagantly or immoderately. أَسْرَفَ الْمَالَ or أَسْرَفَ فِي مَالِهِ : He spent his property extravagantly. اِسْرَاتٌ also signifies the committing of many faults, offences, crimessins. نَجْزِي مَنْ أَسْرَفَ : We recompense him who is extravagant, commits excesses or crimes and offences )20:128( الْإِسْرَافُ فِي الْقَتْلِ : Slaying of a person other than the slayer; slaying without proper authority; slaying more persons for one person slain; maiming or mutilating before slaughter. فَلَا يُسْرِفْ فِى الْقَتْلِ : He should not exceed proper or prescribed limits in slaying )17:34( أَكَلَهُ إِسْرَافًا : He ate it hastily. فَلَا تَأْكُلُوْهَا إِسْرَافًا وَبِدَارًا : And do not eat in extravagance and in haste )4:7( وَإِسْرَافَنَا فِي أَمْرِنَا : And excesses in our affairs )3:14( مُسْرِفُوْنَ ( مُسْرِفٌ and مُسْرِفِينَ plurals): One who transgresses or exceeds just bounds; acting extravagantly (act. part. (. مَنْ هُوَ مُسْرِفٌ مُّرْتَابٌ : Who is an extravagant and a doubter )40:35( أَنْتُمْ قَوْمٌ مُّسْرِفُوْنَ : You are a people who exceed all just bounds (7:82;43:6). سَرَقَ ]aor. يَسْرِقُ inf. noun سَرَقٌ and سَرَقَةٌ etc. [ سَرَقَ مِنْهُ مَالاً : He stole from him property; he took it secretly and by artifice. سَرَقَهُمْ : He robbed them. إِنَّ ابْنَكَ سَرَقَ : Thy son has committed a theft He listened or heard : اِسْتَرَقَ السَّمْعَ or سَرَقَ السَّمْعَ (12:82) stealthily )15:19( سُرِقَ صَوْتُهُ : He became hoarse. سُرِقَتْ عِرْضِى : I have been robbed of my honour or reputation. سَرَقَتْنِي عَيْنِي : My eye overcame me. سَرَقَ aor. يَسْرَقُ ( : It was or became imperceptible. سَارِقٌ )plural( سَارِقُوْنَ and سَارِقِيْنَ and سَرَقَةٌ and سُرَّاقٌ( : A thief; one who steals. ) سَارِقَةٌ feminine(. وَالسَّارِقُ وَالسَّارِقَةُ : And a man who steals and a woman who steals )5:39( إِنَّكُمْ لَسَارِقُوْنَ Indeed you are thieves (12:71;12:74). : سَرْمَدٌ Signifies or implies continuance or continuing; or continuing incessantly or endlessly. لَيْلٌ سَرْمَدٌ : A very long night. هُوَ لَكَ سَرْمْدًا : It is thine forever. سَرْمَدًا إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ : )make the night( continue over you till the Day of Resurrection (28:72). سَرَى ]aor. يَسْرِى inf. noun سُرَى and سَرَى أَوْ سَارَ لَيْلاً [مَسْرًى : He journeyed or travelled by night or in the night. سَرَى فِيْهِ السَّم : The 393
