According to some authorities, the first two are syn. but  ö r ø ^ h º has an intensive sense, yet according to others  ø r ô n» g º and  ö r ø ^ h º are syn; signifying a thing, affair or event wondered at or inducing wonder or admiration or joy. â F  ø ]  ø o » ð º Â ø r ô n» g º : It is a wonderful thing (50:3). Öø  ø o » ð º Â ö r ø ^ h º : It is indeed a wondrous or marvellous thing (38:6). ]ø  » r ø fø ä ü : It excited his wonder; it excited his admiration; it pleased him; it made him proud, conceited, haughty. Ê ø ¡ iö à » r ô f» Ô ø ]ø Ú » ç ø ] Öö ã ö Ü » : Their wealth should not excite thy wonder (9:55). ]ô  » ]ø  » r ø fø j» Ó ö Ü » Ò ø %»  ø iö Ó ö Ü » : When your numbers made you proud (9:25). ]ø  » r ø fø ßô o » u ö  » ßö ã ø ^ : Her beauty excited my admiration. ]ø Ú »  º  ø r ô n» g º æ ø ]ø Ú »  º  ø r ø g º : A wonderful affair.  ø r ø  ø and  ø r ö  ø [aor. mø à » r ö  ö inf. noun  ö r ö ç »  º ]  ø r ø  ø l » æ ø  ø r ö  ø l ô ] Ö» Û ø  » ] ? ø é ö : The woman became old, aged.  ø r ø  ø (aor. mø à » r ô  ö inf. noun  ø r »  º ) and  ø r ô  ø (aor. mø à » r ø  ö inf. noun  ø r ø  º ) : He lacked strength or power or ability; he was or became powerless or unable to do a thing or was too old to do it. ]ø  ø r ø  » l ö : Am I not able to be (5:32). ]ô Ú »  ø ]ø é º  ø ^ q ô  º : A weak woman.  ø r ö ç »  º (i. e.  ø ^ q ô  º ) : An old and aged woman; old and weak woman; (plural  ø r ø ^ ñô  ö ); a man's wife whether old or young and in like manner the husband, though young is called;  ø n» î º ; an old or aged man or extremely weak and old man; wine or old wine; a sword; a calamity; a boat; fire. æ ø ]ø Þø ^  ø r ö ç »  º : And I am an old woman (11:73). The primary significance of  ø r »  º is to be or become behind with respect to a thing or holding back or abstaining from it, or the happening of a thing at the end of an affair. ]ø  » r ø  ø å ü : He found him to be weak or without strength or old and weak; he rendered him to be without strength, power or ability or incapacitated or disabled him (as also  ø ^ q ø  ø å ü ); he rendered him unable to overtake him, or he was unable to overtake him; It frustrated his power or ability or his skill; it escaped him. ]ø á » Ö $ à » Þ % à » r ô  ø ] Ö × # ä ø Ê ô o ] » ø  »  ô æ ø Öø à » Þ % à » r ô  ø å ü â ø  ø e÷ ^ : That we cannot frustrate the plan of Allah on the earth nor can we escape Him by flight (72:13).
