Glossary A sha bu s - S uffah —In one cor- ner of the Prophet’s mosque in Madinah, a covered platform was prepared which was known as ‘Suffah’. This served as the resting place of indigent Em- igrants who dedicated them- selves to the worship of Al- lah, the company of the Holy Prophet sas, and recitation of the Holy Quran. They became known as A sha bu s - S uffah. Dervish —A person who leaves all the pleasures and comforts of this world and devotes his life to God. Hadrat —A term of respect used to show honor and reverence for a person of established righteousness and piety. The lit- eral meaning is: His/Her Holi- ness, Worship, Eminence, etc. It is also used for God in the su- perlative sense. Holy Prophet sas —A title used ex- clusively for the Founder of Is- lam, Hadrat Muhammad sas. Holy Quran —The final and per- fect Scripture revealed by Allah for the guidance of mankind for all times to come. It was revealed word by word to the Holy Prophet Muhammad sas over a period of twenty-three years. Jama'at —Defined as community. In general, the Jama'at refers to the entire community of Ah- madi Muslims. Jamia‘ —Understood as group, but more commonly university. Jamia ‘ refers to universities es- tablished around the world by the Ahmadiyya Community to train and educate missionaries and scholars.
