The commentary of al-Qa si dah 75 COUPLET 15 The fury and wrath of the opponents attempted to grind them to dust ; But the mercy of their Beneficent Lord sustained them and they remained steadfast. In the early days of Islam, the cruelties perpetrated against the believers are rarely found in previous prophet’s times. Purk a sh Dev i who was a Parcharik of Brahmu Sam a j [a Hindu sect] in Lahore writes in his book Saw a ne h ‘ Umr i Hadrat Muhammad Sahib (The Life of Muhammad sa ): Those helpless believers had a mountain of atrocities fall upon them. People would seize them and take them to a strip of wilderness and lay them upon the hot sands and place stone slabs upon their chests. They would squirm about because of the heat and their tongues would hang out, being pressed out by the heavy weight upon them. Many of them died from this torture. Among those persecuted was a person named ‘Amm a r. Actually, because of the patience and determination he displayed against his persecutors he should be called Hadrat ‘Amm a r. They would tie him up and let him lie on rocky gravel area and order him to insult Mu h ammad. This same treatment was given to his aging father. His mother whose name was Sumaiyyah could not bear this
