91 It is for this reason that God has spoken at another place as such: 3 That is: Will you grieve yourself to death because they believe not. The Holy Prophet sa had been vouchsafed the greatest bounty, and his greatest wish was that this bounty be spread across the whole world for everyone to accept it. That is why, at this point, God is informing him that he need not to worry if people have gone astray. God is telling him to let the believers partake of what he has. A time will come for these disbelievers when they would reap the fruit of their present actions. This is what the verse meant in keeping with the spiritual station of the Holy Prophet sa. In relation to us, however, the verse would mean: ‘O Muslims! We have bestowed upon you great rewards and bounties. If you see someone with worldly wealth, do not become jealous and wish to acquire it for yourself. You must not look at such people with gaping eyes. What God has vouchsafed upon you is a much greater reward. Consider your condition to be the grace of God, and do not look towards whatever the materialistic people have been given. You should just leave the world for those who wish to seek it. You must not go anywhere else, since God has called you to His own threshold. Yes, you should make a living but only that which is adequate for your subsistence, for this is the command of God. Spend as much of your time in serving the faith as possible, and keep away from people whose company results in losing your 3 S u rah ash-Shu‘ar a’ , 26:4
