i Foreword to the first edition This brief outline of the background and develop- ment of the B a b i and Bah a ’ i religions has been prepared by S u f i A. Q. Niy a z at the request of Wak a lat-e-Tabsh i r, Rabwah. It is based mainly on a series of articles in the ‘Review of Religions’, and two books on the subject: one by Maulaw i Fa d al D i n and the other by Maul a n a Abul ‘ Ata ’. It is hoped readers will find the subject dealt with as compactly and comprehensively as was possible in a brief study of the kind aimed at in these pages.
