THE B Ā B Ī AND BAH Ā ’ Ī RELIGION 100 openly proclaimed a number of times in Kaukab-e- Hind. 149 Bah a ’ull a h Claimed Godhead and Divinity. Then what did the claim of Bah a ’ull a h precisely amount to? Kaukab-e-Hind answers this question as follows "The Bah a ’ i s hold that the epoch of prophethood has come to an end. They hold that prophethood has come to an end even among the followers of Mu h ammad. But of course they do not hold that the Power of God has come to an end. Therefore they accept a new manifestation of the power, which goes a step beyond prophethood, implying thereby the end of the epoch of prophethood. This is the reason why the Bh a’i s never say that prophethood has not ended and that the Promised One of all the religions is a nab i or ras u l. What they say is this that advent was a Mustaqil Khud a’i Z ah u r 150. Moreover, it stands only too true to reason that one-step beyond prophethood is nothing else but Godhead and Divinity itself. Part Man and Part God. In spite of Bah a ’ull a h’s claim to Divinity, it was and always shall be quite impossible for the Bah a ’ i s to 149 Kaukab-e-Hind.
