223 13 Absolute Justice May Never be Withheld Now we turn to a completely different avenue of Quranic teachings which relates to the social relationship between individuals and other individuals on the one hand, and the individuals and the society on the other. The role of politics in human affairs is also fully covered by the same teaching. Of the many verses which throw further light on this subject from different angles, we have selected only the following few by way of illustration. The first of these verses deals with the most important issues of giving testimony. It must always be given as though given in the presence of God, fulfilling all the requirements of absolute justice. O ye who believe! be steadfast in the cause of Allah, bearing witness in equity; and let not a people’s enmity incite you to act otherwise than with justice. Be always just, that is nearer to righteousness. And fear Allah. Surely, Allah is aware of what you do. (S u rah al-M a ’idah; Ch. 5: V. 9)
