The Teaching of Justice and Kindness Regarding Relatives 401 So give to the kinsman his due, and to the needy, and to the wayfarer. That is best for those who seek the favour of Allah, and it is they who will prosper. (S u rah al-R u m; Ch. 30: V. 39) Here, Allah has enjoined us to take care of a wide range of rights of humankind. Hence it is required that when Allah expands one’s resources, O reader of the Quran, give relatives their due rights and also give rights to the poor who do not beg. Similarly, give due rights to the wayfarer. This is a beautiful teaching for those who require Allah’s favour and always look towards him, wondering how Allah treats them and whether He is happy with them or angry with them. People who do accordingly are the ones who are truly redeemed. Again the Holy Quran declares: And worship Allah and associate naught with him, and show kindness to parents, and to kindred, and orphans, and the needy, and to the neighbour that is a kinsman and the neighbour that is a stranger, and the
