The Teaching of Justice and Kindness Regarding Relatives 397 orphans. And whatever good you do, surely Allah knows it well. ' (S u rah al-Nis a ’; Ch. 4: V. 128) Allah declares that because this order is given to the whole society, so society is responsible that no orphan should be left without proper care. Allah also declares: And they ask you concerning the orphans. Say: 'Promotion of their welfare is an act of great goodness. And if you intermix with them, they are your brethren. And Allah knows the mischief-maker from the reformer. And if Allah had so willed, He would have put you to hardship. Surely, Allah is Mighty, Wise. ' (S u rah al-Baqarah; Ch. 2: V. 221) There are many societies where orphans are left to shift for themselves and as a result they suffer from many problems. That is why the Holy Quran stresses that orphans should not be neglected. Like all the younger generations who have their parents to look after them, orphans also have a right to be looked after.
