271 18 A New Category of Testimony Now we turn to a completely different type of testimony belonging to human psyche. Normally it seems that all vehement opponents of the Holy Prophet sa were united in their opposition, however, the Holy Quran points out that all of them were not alike. Though such exceptions did not always come to surface, some among them secretly began to entertain the possibility of the Holy Prophet’s sa truth and even wish that they were Muslims. This is a secret of human nature which could only be known to an All- Knowing God. Among the opponents there were certainly some who recognized many signs in favour of the Holy Prophet sa , but their social bondage did not permit them to accept him sa openly. It is to this that the following verse of the Holy Quran refers: Many a time those who disbelieve have a deep yearning in their hearts that they were also Muslims. (S u rah al- H ijr; Ch. 15: V. 3) Sometimes upon the disbelievers descend such calamities as strike awe in their hearts; similar calamities befall other disbelievers like them.
