GLOSSARY 79 Siraj-e-Munir A magnificent book published in 1897 by the Promised Messiahas, which documents thir- ty-seven prophecies, including the humiliating ends of Pundit Lekh Ram and Abdullah Atham. The book also features an affectionate exchange of letters between Had- rat Khawajah Ghulam Faridrta, a revered sufi saint, and the Prom- ised Messiahas. Şahib A title of respect similar to di- verse English terms like Mister, Honourable, and Revered. Sunnah In the context of the formal Prayer, refers to those rak'at that the Holy Prophetsas offered but are not prescribed as obligatory and are dropped while travelling. Sunnah rak'at are offered regularly by practicing Muslims. Sürah Arabic word for 'chapter', and used for designating the chapters of the Holy Quran. Taubah Signifies repenting sincerely of past moral lapses with a firm re- solve to completely shun all evil and to do good deeds, making amends for all wrongs done. Vedas The most ancient Hindu scrip- tures, written in Sanskrit and con- taining hymns, philosophy, and guidance on ritual for the priests of the Vedic religion.
