48 A VERDICT REQUIRED Şahib must have also seen those sections in which the example of an accepted prayer was presented. ☆ In short, although praying for Lekh Ram's death was due to his offensive language and audacity, it was also intended to pres- ent an illustration of an answered prayer to Syed Şahib. Now it is Syed Şahib's duty to change his flawed opinion. It is unaccept- able that even after the cost of an individual's¹ life, Syed Şahib remains unflinched in the same spot. These are the prophecies that had been widely published in 1893 regarding Lekh Ram's death, and whoever reflects upon them will be forced to admit that these prophecies definitively specified a period of six years from the 20th of February 1893 for the death of the previously named individual. Further, the visionary experience was also disclosing that Lekh 1. ✩ One prophecy regarding Lekh Ram was that: يُقْضَى أَمْرُهُ فِي سِثٌ ; that is, 'His matter will be settled in six. As of this moment, I cannot ascertain with certainty whether this prophecy has been documented in any pub- lished announcement or book of mine, or in the literary work of any of my friends. Nevertheless, it is a matter of common knowledge within my Jama'at [Community], and I am certain that it must have reached others as well, given the prophecy of Eid [that Lekh Ram would die on the day next to Eid] had become widely known among the Aryas. The reason for this is that none of my pronouncements are secret. The ful- filment of this prophecy occurred in precise accordance with its stated meaning: Lekh Ram sustained his injury on the sixth day of March, during the day's sixth hour. If Batalawi Şahib denies this oral tradition, he shall encounter con- siderable difficulty in accepting the Hadith. For those traditions are not merely oral in nature, but were also committed to writing no less than a century or a century and a half later. To deny something recent while those who saw and heard it are still alive is tantamount, in the eyes of the wise, to inviting disgrace upon oneself. Author
