HADRAT MIRZA GHULAM AHMAD AS 13 with them, and desired to somehow falsify this magnificent prophecy, the refutation of which, according to the agreement documents, would amount to the refutation of Islam itself. Consequently, Maulawi Abū Sa'id Muhammad Husain Batalawi, Editor of Ishāʻatus-Sunnah, along with a few other maulawīs, widely publicised their opinion that this prophecy has proven to be false. Consequently, they even sent a letter addressed to me, in which they had written that, I have concluded in good faith that the prophecy has not been fulfilled; that is, the death of Lekh Ram was an accidental occurrence in which God had no involvement. ' Moreover, they emphasized the question why it should be accepted as proven fact that the prophecy came out true, and why it should not be accepted that this was a coinci- dental death that happened to take place during the time period specified for the prophecy. I cared naught whatsoever for this denial so far as my per- sonal interests were concerned; however, since the agreement documents were seized during the time of the search and were read out in the presence of the District Superintendent of Police, and every friend and foe became aware of them, it is now unpar- donable to overlook such a truth, the neglect of which would be an unjustified attack against Islam. It was verily due to this dire necessity that this entire episode had to be presented before the sagacious so that they might see the egregious extent of deliber- ate injustice that was perpetrated. What a pity that these peo- ple failed to realize when publicizing these opinions that such interpretations would leave no prophecy of any Prophet intact in the world, since everywhere the door remains open to the whim
