48 TESTIMONY OF THE HOLY QURAN And remember the time when We divided the sea just when you reached there, and then We saved you and drowned the people of Pharaoh, while you looked on. Now, it should be considered that from among these inci- dents, not even one was faced by the Jews who were present at the time of the Holy Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. Neither were they afflicted with suffering at the hand of the Pharaoh, nor did anyone kill their sons, nor did they have to cross any sea. Then further ahead He says: وَإِذْ قُلْتُمْ يَمُوسَى لَنْ نُؤْمِنَ لَكَ حَتَّى نَرَى اللَّهَ جَهْرَةً فَأَخَذَتْكُمُ الصُّعِقَةُ وَانْتُمْ تَنْظُرُونَ ) ثُمَّ بَعَثْنَكُمْ مِنْ بَعْدِ مَوْتِكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَشْكُرُونَ ، وَ ظَلَّلْنَا عَلَيْكُمُ الْغَمَامَ وَ أَنْزَلْنَا عَلَيْكُمُ الْمَنَّ وَ السلوى _ 1 Meaning that, And remember the time when you said to Moses that We will not believe merely because of what you say until we ourselves see Allah with our own eyes. Thereupon thunderbolt fell upon you; and then you were given life, that you might be grateful. And We caused the clouds to be a shade over you and sent down mann and salwā [quails] for you. Now it is obvious that Mosesas had died 2,000 years before the Jews who were addressed in the Holy Quran; and there was not a trace of them in the time of Mosesas. How, then, could they have put such questions to Mosesas? Where did the thunderbolt fall upon them and where did they eat mann and salwā? Were they present in the time of Mosesas in some other bodily forms, 1. Sūrah al-Baqarah, 2:56-58 [Publisher]
