160 the verdict of the clerics was that of apostasy, which was punishable with death by stoning. Still, if he ‘repented’, he would be forgiven. The Ameer again tried hard to persuade him to retract, giving him promises of free- dom and favours. But persistently rejected the offers. On 14 July 1903, Hazrat Sahibzadah Abdul- Lateef ra was again called to the Ameer’s court. Several people had gathered there. The Ameer asked him once again to ‘repent’. At the time of the stoning when the prince was made to stand in a deep hole, buried up to his waist, the Ameer went to him again and said: ‘There is still time for you to revoke the Bai‘at and renounce. ’ Hazrat Sahibzadah Abdul-Lateef
