PT. 30 CH. 88 (AL-GHASHIYAH) 1. "In the name of Allah, the Gracious, the Merciful. Overwhelming 2. Has there come to thee the news of the Calamity'?4692 TV سُورَةُ الْغَاشِيَةِ مَكَّيَّةٌ ۸۸ بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ هَلْ أَتَكَ حَدِيثُ الْغَاشِيَةِ ) وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَيذٍ خَاشِعَةٌ ) عَامِلَةً نَّاصِبَةٌ لا تَصْلَى نَارًا حَامِيَةً تُسْقَى مِنْ عَيْنٍ آنِيَةٍ ن لَيْسَ لَهُمْ طَعَامُ إِلَّا مِنْ طَرِيع ) 3. Some faces on that day will be downcast;4. 4693 4. Toiling, weary. 4694 5. They shall enter a blazing Fire:d 6. And will be made to drink from a boiling spring; 7. They will have no food save that of dry, bitter and thorny herbage,4695 "See 1:1. 12:108. 68:44; 75:25; 80:41-42. 87:13; 101:12. 47:16; 55:45. (Overwhelming Calamity) is 4692. Important Words: derived from. They say i. e. it عشى الليل. covered or overwhelmed him means, the night was dark. indeed a terrific calamity for the Meccans. 4693. Commentary: meaning 'chiefs' or 'leaders' of men; the verse signifies that on the means, an overwhelming calamity; a Day of Reckoning the great leaders of terrific misery (Lane). Commentary: The reference in the verse may be to the Judgement Day or to a terrific calamity that overtakes a people in this life, on account of their misdeeds. The severe famine that held Mecca in its grip for about seven years in the time of the Holy Prophet has also been referred to in the Quran as (44:11-12). Commentary: The verse means to say that all the endeavours of the leaders of disbelief against Islam will be wasted as they will fail to arrest or retard its progress. 4695.
